ประวัติ / ความเป็นมา
“กำฟ้า” เป็นประเพณีของชาวไทยพวนในจังหวัดต่าง ที่มีชาวพวนอาศัยอยู่ได้ยึดถือปฏิบัติต่อกันมาตั้งแต่ครั้งโบราณ
กำฟ้า หมายถึงประเพณีนับถือ สักการะบูชาฟ้า เนื่องจากชาวพวนเป็นกลุ่มชนที่ประกอบอาชีพทางการเกษตร โดยเฉพาะการทำนา ในสมัยดั้งเดิมการทำนาต้องอาศัยน้ำฝนจากธรรมชาติ ชาวนาในสมัยนั้นจึงมีการเกรงกลัวฟ้ามาก ไม่กล้าที่จะทำอะไรให้ฟ้าพิโรธ ถ้าฟ้าพิโรธย่อมหมายถึง ความแห้งแล้ง อดยาก หรือฟ้าอาจผ่าคนตาย ประชาชนกลัวจะได้รับความทุกข์ยากอันเป็นภัยจากฟ้า จึงมีการเซ่นสรวง สักการะบูชาผีฟ้า ทั้งนี้ เพื่อเป็นการเอาใจ มิให้ฟ้าพิโรธ หรืออีกนัยหนึ่ง ชาวบ้านที่ประกอบอาชีพทางด้านเกษตรกรรมนั้น รู้สึกสำนึกในบุญคุณของผีฟ้าที่ได้ให้น้ำฝน อันหมายถึงความชุ่มชื้น ความอุดมสมบูรณ์ มีชีวิตของคน สัตว์ และพืชพรรณต่างๆ จึงได้เกิดประเพณีกำฟ้าขึ้น เพื่อเป็นการประจบผีฟ้าไม่ให้พิโรธ และเป็นการแสดงความขอบคุณต่อเทพยาดาแห่งท้องฟ้าหรือผีฟ้า ดังกล่าวมาแล้ว
กำหนดงาน
ประเพณีกำฟ้า ยังคงปฏิบัติกันอยู่ในหมู่ชาวบ้านพวนทุกจังหวัดทั่วประเทศ แต่ละท้องที่จะกำหนด วัน เวลา คาดเคลื่อนกันไปบ้างในห้วงเวลาของเดือนอ้าย ขึ้น 14 ค่ำ เดือนยี่ ขึ้น 13 ค่ำ และเดือน3 ขึ้น 3 ค่ำ
กิจกรรม / พิธี
กิจกรรมที่ชาวพวนถือปฏิบัติกันในระหว่างกำฟ้ามี 3ประการ คือ
ประการที่ 1 งดเว้นจากการงานที่ปฏิบัติอยู่เป็นประจำทั้งหมด
ประการที่ 2 ทำบุญใส่บาตร
ประการที่ 3 ประกอบพิธี ตั้งบายศรีบูชาฟ้าและประกาศขอพรจากเทพยาดาที่รักษาท้องฟ้า หรือผีฟ้า
