หนอนเมื่อฟักออกจากไข่ใหม่ๆ จะอยู่รวมกันเป็นกลุ่ม แทะกินผิวใบพืชด้านล่าง เหลือไว้แต่ผิวใบด้านบน เมื่อผิวใบแห้งจะเกิดเป็นสีขาวๆ สังเกตได้ง่ายมากเมื่อหนอนอยู่ในวัยที่ 2-3 แล้วจะแยกกลุ่มกันออกมากัดกินใบพืช
