ในช่วง 9 เดือนแรกของ พ.ศ.2541 มีมูลค่าการค้ารวม 510,057 ล้านบาท เป็นสินค้าออก 307,805 ล้านบาท สินค้าเข้า 202,251 ล้านบาท หากเปรียบเทียบกับการส่งออกในช่วง 9 เดือนแรกของ พ.ศ.2540 ซึ่งมีมูลค่าการค้า 437,592 ล้านบาทแล้ว มีมูลค่าสูงขึ้นถึง 72,465 ล้านบาท หรือสูงขึ้นร้อยละ 16.6 ล้านบาท จึงคาดว่าการส่งออกของไทยไปยังประเทศในกลุ่มอาเซียนจะมีมูลค่าสูงขึ้นเรื่อยๆ และไทยจะได้ดุลการค้าเพิ่มขึ้นด้วย สินค้าที่ไทยส่งออกไปยังประเทศในกลุ่มอาเซียนที่สำคัญ 5 อันดับแรก คือ
1. เครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ อุปกรณ์ และส่วนประกอบ
2. ข้าว
3. แผงวงจรไฟฟ้า
4. น้ำตาลทราย
