บทคัดย่อ
การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมายในการค้นคว้า ดังนี้ ๑)เพื่อศึกษาประวัติความเป็นมาของประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมือง ๒) เพื่อศึกษากิจกรรมต่างๆในประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมือง ๓) เพื่อสืบทอดประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมือง
ผลการศึกษาค้นคว้าพบว่าประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมืองเป็นมนต์เสน่ห์อย่างหนึ่งของชาวล้านนาที่ถูกหล่อหลอมจนกลายเป็นประเพณีที่เรียบง่าย โดยประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมือง ถือเป็นการเปลี่ยนศักราชและเป็นการเคลื่อนย้ายพระอาทิตย์เข้าสู้ราศีเมษ จะเริ่มตั้งแต่วันที่ ๑๓-๑๘ ประกอบด้วยวันสังขารล่อง วันเน่า วันพญาวัน วันปากปี วันปากเดือนและวันปากยามตามลำดับ ประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมืองจะทำในช่วงเวลาที่ราษฎร์เว้นว่างจากการทำไร่ทำสวน จึงถือเอาประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมืองเป็นวันทำบุญใหญ่วันหนึ่งในรอบปี เป็นวันที่สนุกสนานรื่นเริงด้วยการเล่นนำสงกรานต์ให้เย็นฉ่ำ ถือขันรดน้ำกัน เป็นโอกาสให้เด็กๆ หนุ่มสาวผู้เฒ่าผู้แก่ได้มาพบเจอกัน โดยผ่านการทำกิจกรรมต่างๆ เช่น สรงน้ำพระ ขนทรายเข้าวัด รดน้ำดำหัว ฯลฯ แต่ในขณะเดียวกันวัยรุ่นไทยก็ละเลยประเพณีท้องถิ่น และหันไปตามวัฒนธรรมของชาวตะวันตก หากเป็นเช่นนี้ต่อไป ประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมืองก็อาจจะสูญหายไปตลอดกาล เหลือไว้เพียงชื่อให้จารึกไว้เท่านั้น ดังนั้นเราคนไทย คนล้านนาก็ควรหันมาสืบสานประเพณีปี๋ใหม่เมืองให้คงอยู่คู่แผ่นดินต่อไป
