ปัจจุบันดอยอ่างขางได้เปลี่ยนสภาพจากภูเขาซึ่งถูกตัดไม้ทำลายป่ามาเป็นพื้นที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ มีพันธุ์ไม้ผลกว่า 12 ชนิด ผักเมืองหนาวกว่า 60 ชนิด และไม้ดอกเมืองหนาวมากกว่า 20 ชนิด สภาพอากาศเย็นสบายตลอดทั้งปี อุณหภูมิเฉลี่ยประมาณ 16.9 องศาเซลเซียส มีชาวไทยภูเขาเผ่าจีนฮ่อ ไทยใหญ่ มูเซอดำ และปะหล่อง อาศัยอยู่โดยรอบกว่า 600 ครัวเรือนใน 6 หมู่บ้าน
