การศึกษาค้นคว้านี้ วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อลดปริมาณขยะจากขวดพลาสติกโดยการนำมาแปรรูปให้เป็นถังขยะและนอกจากจะลดโดยการนำขวดพลาสติกเหลือใช้มาทำเป็นถังขยะแล้วการที่มีคนมาทิ้งขวดพลาสติกลงถังขยะจะเป็นการช่วยในเรื่องการรีไซเคิล ช่วยแยกขยะทำให้ช่วยในการคัดแยกขวดพลาสติกที่สามารถนำกลับมาใช้ใหม่ได้ง่ายขึ้นอีกด้วย โดยมีวิธีการดังนี้คือ 1) นำขวดพลาสติกเหลือใช้ที่ได้จากบริเวณขอบเขตที่เราศึกษาคือ โรงเรียนสุราษฎร์ธานี จำนวน 80 ขวดต่อ 1 ถัง โดยนำมาต่อเป็นชั้นๆ 4 ชั้น ชั้นละ 23-24 ขวด แล้วเชื่อมให้ติดกันโดยกาว 2) นำเหล็กมาดัดให้เป็นโครงเหล็ก และนำขวดพลาสติกที่ทำเป็นชั้นๆแล้วติดลงไปบนโครงนั้นโดยใช้กาวเชื่อม 3) ใช้ตาข่ายติดไว้ด้านล่างของถังโดยใช้ลวดพันนำไปวางตามจุดต่างๆโดยติดป้ายให้ทิ้งขยะรีไซเคิล
ผลการศึกษาพบว่าประสบความสำเร็จในส่วนหนึ่งคือช่วยลดปริมาณขวดพลาสติกได้มากในการทำถังขยะ 1 ถัง และมีคนมาทิ้งขยะรีไซเคิลจริง ซึ่งจากการที่ได้ประดิษฐ์ถังขยะจากขวดพลาสติกก็สามารถนำไปพัฒนาและต่อยอดให้ดียิ่งขึ้นได้ แสดงถึงความเป็นไปได้ที่จะสามารถนำไปใช้ตามสถานที่สาธารณะต่างๆได้
