ด้านการเมืองและความมั่นคง
ไทยและพม่ามีกลไกความร่วมมือทวิภาคี ได้แก่
(1) คณะกรรมาธิการร่วมไทย-พม่า (Thailand – Myanmar Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation – JC) ซึ่งรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศทั้งสองประเทศเป็นประธานร่วมเพื่อส่งเสริมความสัมพันธ์ในภาพรวมได้จัดการประชุมครั้งที่ 6 เมื่อวันที่ 7-9 มกราคม 2545 ที่จังหวัดภูเก็ต
(2) คณะกรรมการเขตแดนร่วม (Joint Boundary Committee – JBC) ซึ่งรัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศทั้งสองประเทศเป็นประธานร่วมเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาเขตแดนร่วมกัน โดยประชุมครั้งที่ 6 เมื่อวันที่ 30 พฤศจิกายน – 1 ธันวาคม 2548 โดยมี ร.ต.ประพาส ลิมปะพันธุ์ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงการต่างประเทศเป็นประธานคณะกรรมการเขตแดนร่วมไทย-พม่าฝ่ายไทย และนายหม่อง มิ้นรัฐมนตรีช่วยว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศพม่าเป็นประธานฝ่ายพม่า
(3) คณะกรรมการชายแดนส่วนภูมิภาค (Regional Border Committee – RBC) ซึ่งแม่ทัพภาคที่สามของไทยและแม่ทัพภาคตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ของพม่าเป็นประธานร่วมเพื่อส่งเสริมความร่วมมือและแก้ไขปัญหาความสงบเรียบร้อยบริเวณชายแดนโดยประชุมครั้งที่ 22 เมื่อวันที่ 29 เมษายน – 1 พฤษภาคม 2548 ที่เมืองเชียงตุงรัฐฉานของพม่า
