เกาะตาชัย ตั้งอยู่ทางตอนเหนือสุดของอุทยานแห่งชาติหมู่เกาะสิมิลัน และอยู่ไม่ไกลจากหมู่เกาะสุรินทร์มากนัก ถูกพบครั้งแรกโดยชายที่ชื่อ “ตาชัย” ทำให้ตั้งชื่อเกาะตามคนค้นพบว่า “เกาะตาชัย” ถือได้ว่าเป็นเกาะบริวารที่อยู่ในความดูแลรับผิดชอบของอุทยานแห่งชาติหมู่เกาะสิมิลัน
