สมเด็จพระมหาวีรวงศ์ ทรงมีความปิติยิ

สมเด็จพระมหาวีรวงศ์ ทรงมีความปิติยินดีกับความสามัคคีของชาวอุบล ในการสร้างพระธาตุไว้สักการะบูชาอย่างยิ่ง จึงได้อัญเชิญพระบรมสารีริกธาตุจากกรุงเทพมหานคร มารถไฟอุบลราชธานี จนถึงวัดหนองบัว ในวันที่ 20 มีนาคม 2502 โดยผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี วันที่ 21 มีนาคม 2502 เป็นวันมหามงคลยิ่งของชาวอุบลฯ ที่พระบรมสารีริกธาตุ ได้บรรจุในพระธาตุอย่างสมบูรณ์ โดยสมเด็จพระมหาวีรวงศ์ เป็นผู้อัญเชิญพระบรมสารีริกธาตุขึ้นประดิษฐ์ฐานยังองค์พระบรมธาตุ

เหตุการณ์ครั้งนี้ ได้มีบันทึกกราบถวายองค์พระบรมธาตุว่า วันที่ 21 มีนาคม 2502 พวกเกล้าชาวจังหวัดอุบลราชธานี ได้พร้อมใจกันสร้างพระบรมธาตุเจดีย์ศรีมหาโพธิ์ขึ้น ที่ข้างหนองบัวหลวง กิโลเมตรที่ 3 จ.อุบลราชธานี เพื่อเป็นพุทธบูชาและเพื่อความเจริญของพระพุทธศาสนา ในโอกาสพุทธศตวรรษที่ 25 นี้ และพวกเกล้า มีความปิติซาบซึ้งในพระคุณของพระพุทธเจ้า ซึ่งได้อัญเชิญพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ มาบรรจุในพระบรมเจดีย์ให้พวกเกล้า พระคุณอันนี้ อยู่ในความรำลึกของชาวอุบลราชธานีโดยถ้วนหน้าตลอดกาลนาน
