การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาพฤติกรรมและความต้องการด้านการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมของนักท่องเที่ยวผู้สูงอายุชาวต่างชาติ 2) ศึกษาและพัฒนารูปแบบกิจกรรมการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมด้านหัตถกรรม และศาสนาในจังหวัดเชียงรายแบบมีส่วนร่วมที่เหมาะสมสำหรับนักท่องเที่ยวผู้สูงอายุชาวต่างชาติ 3) ศึกษาและพัฒนาศักยภาพของบุคลากรด้านการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมด้านหัตถกรรม และศาสนาในจังหวัดเชียงรายเพื่อรองรับนักท่องเที่ยวผู้สูงอายุชาวต่างชาติ 4) ศึกษาและสร้างกลยุทธ์การสื่อสารการตลาดของการท่องเที่ยวเชิงวัฒนธรรมด้านหัตถกรรม และศาสนาในจังหวัดเชียงรายที่เหมาะสมกับนักท่องเที่ยวผู้สูงอายุชาวต่างชาติ การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงปริมาณใช้การวิเคราะห์สถิติเชิงพรรณนา โดยวิเคราะห์ค่าสถิติดังนี้คือ ค่าความถี่ ค่าร้อยละ ค่าเฉลี่ย และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน ส่วนการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพใช้การวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา
