เทศกาลลอยกระทง ตรงกับวันเพ็ญขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 12 ของทุกปี หรืออยู่ในราว
เดือนพฤศจิกายนถือว่าเป็นประเพณีเก่าแก่ของไทยที่มีตั้งแต่ครั้งสมัยสุโขทัย
เรียกกันว่า งานลอยพระประทีป หรือลอยโคม เป็นงานนักขัตฤกษ์รื่นเริงของ

อินเดีย ซึ่งปัจจุบัน เรียกว่าแม่น้ำเนรพุททา สำหรับประเทศไทยประเพณีลอยกระทง
