จากผลการวิจัยพฤติกรรมการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักศึกษาสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการสื่อสารสากล คณะวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ทั้งนักศึกษาประเภท ภาคปกติ และ เทียบโอน ของมหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยี ราชมงคลศรีวิชัย ผู้วิจัยพบว่า
1.นักศึกษามีพฤติกรรมการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษอยู่ในระดับที่ยังไม่เป็นที่พอใจ กล่าว คือ ขาดลักษณะนิสัยการอ่านที่ดี นักศึกษาอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ โดยมีเหตุผลหรือแรงจูงใจ คือ เพื่อต้องการพัฒนาการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของตนเอง และที่สำคัญอีกประการหนึ่ง คือ ต้องการสอบผ่านหลักสูตรที่กำหนดไว้ จากคำตอบของแนวทางการต้องการพัฒนาการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษด้วยตนเอง นักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่เห็นว่า การทบทวนตำราเรียนเป็นแนวทางถูกยึดปฏิบัติเป็นสำคัญจากเหตุผลดังกล่าวแสดงชัดเจนว่า การอ่านภาษาอังกฤษนั้นเกิดจากแรงจูงใจภายนอก(Extrinsic) มากกว่าแรงจูงใจภายใน(Intrinsic)
