คณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ (อังกฤษ: Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University) เป็นส่วนราชการไทยระดับคณะวิชา สังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ จัดเป็น 1 ใน 4 คณะวิชาก่อตั้งของมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ โดยเป็นคณะวิชาลำดับที่ 3 ของมหาวิทยาลัย

ประวัติ[แก้]
การเรียนการสอนวิชารัฐศาสตร์ในช่วงก่อนปี พ.ศ. 2475 เน้นการมุ่งฝึกฝนบุคลากรเพื่อเข้าสู่ระบบราชการเป็นหลัก อีกทั้งยังมีขอบเขตเนื้อหาที่จำกัด ทั้งนี้เนื่องมาจากเนื้อหาของวิชารัฐศาสตร์ค่อนข้างขัดแย้งต่อระบอบการปกครองในช่วงนั้น หลังการเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครองในปี พ.ศ. 2475 และเหตุการณ์สืบเนื่องอันส่งผลให้มีการก่อตั้งมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมืองในปี พ.ศ. 2477 นับเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นอย่างเป็นรูปธรรมของการจัดการเรียนการสอนวิชารัฐศาสตร์ในประเทศไทย กล่าวคือ สมัยแรกเริ่มนั้น ในระดับชั้นปริญญาตรี การเรียนการสอนวิชารัฐศาสตร์ได้แทรกปะปนอยู่กับเนื้อหาของหลักสูตรวิชา "ธรรมศาสตร์บัณฑิต" (ธ.บ.) ส่วนระดับชั้นปริญญาโทได้แยกหลักสูตรออกเป็น 3 สาขาอย่างชัดเจน ได้แก่ นิติศาสตร์ รัฐศาสตร์ และเศรษฐศาสตร์ (ส่วนด้านการบัญชีนั้น ต่อมาได้มีหลักสูตรประกาศนียบัตรชั้นสูงทางการบัญชีซึ่งเทียบเท่าระดับปริญญาโท) ในขณะที่ระดับชั้นปริญญาเอกได้แยกเป็น 4 สาขา คือ นิติศาสตร์ รัฐศาสตร์ เศรษฐศาสตร์ และการทูต

ต่อมาในช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2491 - 2492 เนื่องจากเกิดความผันผวนทางการเมืองอย่างรุนแรงจากการรัฐประหารวันที่ 8 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2490 รวมทั้งการที่สภาพแวดล้อมทางการเมืองระหว่างประเทศในช่วงนั้นที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไป กล่าวคือ สหรัฐอเมริกาและสหภาพโซเวียตได้ก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นอภิมหาอำนาจที่หวาดระแวงซึ่งกันและกันจนเกิดภาวะ "สงครามเย็น" ขึ้น ซึ่งได้ส่งผลให้ระบบราชการของไทยในยุคนั้นเติบโตอย่างมาก ที่สำคัญที่สุด คือ ข้าราชการกระทรวงมหาดไทยกลุ่มหนึ่ง มีความเห็นว่าการเรียนการสอนในหลักสูตรธรรมศาสตร์บัณฑิตนั้นไม่สามารถผลิตบัณฑิตได้ตรงกับหน้าที่การงานของกระทรวงต่างๆ ได้อย่างเพียงพอ การจัดการเรียนการสอนของมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมืองที่อยู่ในรูปแบบ "ตลาดวิชา" ทำให้นักศึกษาที่สำเร็จการศึกษาออกไปมีอายุแตกต่างกันมาก อีกทั้งนักศึกษาจำนวนหนึ่งมีความตั้งใจที่จะออกไปมีบทบาททางสังคมและการเมือง แทนที่จะมุ่งรับราชการเพียงอย่างเดียว และการเรียนการสอนของมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมือง ไม่ได้มีการฝึกฝนอบรมอย่างเพียงพอที่จะผลิตบัณฑิตออกไปประกอบวิชาชีพบางประเภท เช่น ทนายความ เป็นต้น

จากผลกระทบดังกล่าว ทำให้คณะกรรมการมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมืองสมัยนั้น เช่น ศาสตราจารย์ ดิเรก ชัยนาม ศาตราจารย์ เดือน บุนนาค โดยมี พลเอก มังกร พรหมโยธี เป็นนายกกรรมการ ศาตราจารย์ วิจิตร ลุติตานนท์ เป็นเลขาธิการ เป็นต้น ได้ลงมติตรา "ข้อบังคับเพิ่มเติมว่าด้วยการแบ่งแยกการศึกษาเป็น 4 คณะ และ กำหนดสมัยการศึกษาและการสอบไล่ พ.ศ. 2492" ขึ้น ซึ่งส่งผลให้มีการจัดตั้งคณะนิติศาสตร์ คณะพาณิชยศาสตร์และการบัญชี คณะรัฐศาสตร์ และคณะเศรษฐศาสตร์ ขึ้นพร้อมกันเมื่อวันที่ 14 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2492

ในสมัยแรกเริ่มของการก่อตั้งคณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์นั้น คณบดีคนแรก คือ ศาสตราจารย์ ดิเรก ชัยนาม และคณะกรรมการร่างหลักสูตรท่านอื่น ได้แก่ ศาสตราจารย์ เสริม วินิจฉัยกุล ศาสตราจารย์ ทวี แรงขำ พระองค์เจ้าเปรมบุรฉัตร หม่อมเจ้าลักษณเลิศ ชยางกูร ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ป๋วย อึ๊งภากรณ์ และ ดร.ยวด เลิศฤทธิ์ ได้ทำการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบหลักสูตรของมหาวิทยาลัยในต่างประเทศหลายประเทศ เช่น วิทยาลัยเศรษฐศาสตร์และรัฐศาสตร์แห่งลอนดอน (The London School of Economics and Political Science: LSE) มหาวิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด เป็นต้น รวมทั้งได้รับความช่วยเหลือทางวิชาการจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญของมูลนิธิฟลูไบร์ท (Fulbright) ซึ่งเดินทางเข้ามาในประเทศไทยในช่วงนั้นด้วย หลังจากนั้นการจัดการเรียนการสอนของคณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ก็ได้มีการปรับปรุงเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามกาลสมัย ได้แก่

ในปี พ.ศ. 2496 ได้มีการเปิดแผนกประจำ ซึ่งนักศึกษาจะอยู่กินและนอนที่มหาวิทยาลัยขึ้น โดยนักศึกษาจะได้รับการศึกษาด้านวิชาการและได้รับการอบรมด้านระเบียบวินัยเป็นอย่างดี ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2498 เมื่อมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ได้รับความช่วยเหลือด้านวิชาการโดยตรงจากมหาวิทยาลัยอินเดียนา สหรัฐอเมริกา จึงได้มีการเปิดแผนกวิชารัฐประศาสนศาสตร์ในระดับชั้นปริญญาโท โดยทำการเรียนการสอนทั้งแบบภาษาอังกฤษและภาษาไทย (ซึ่งต่อมาแผนกวิชารัฐประศาสนศาสตร์ ได้รับการยกฐานะเป็นคณะรัฐประศาสนศาสตร์ และได้โอนย้ายไปเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสถาบันบัณฑิตพัฒนบริหารศาสตร์ ในปี พ.ศ. 2509)

พ.ศ. 2502 คณะรัฐศาสตร์ ได้มีมติให้จัดตั้งแผนกวิชาการทูตในระดับปริญญาตรีเป็นครั้งแรก ภายหลังจากที่มีการเรียนการสอนในระดับชั้นปริญญาโทมาแล้วระยะหนึ่ง และต่อมาช่วงปี พ.ศ. 2510 ได้มีการจัดตั้งแผนกวิชาบริหารรัฐกิจ และแผนกวิชารัฐศาสตร์ศึกษาในระดับปริญญาตรีเพิ่มเติม ซึ่งทำให้คณะรัฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ได้เปิดการเรียนการสอนทั้งในระดับปริญญาตรีและปริญญาโท รวม 4 สาขาวิชา คือ การปกครอง บริหารรัฐกิจ ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างประเทศ (หรือแผนกการทูตเดิม) และปรัชญาการเมือง (หรือแผนกรัฐศาสตร์ศึกษาเดิม) ซึ่งต่อมาได้ยุบรวมเหลือ 3 สาขาวิชา คือ การเมืองการปกครอง บริหา
