พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงมีความห่วงใยประชาชนชาวไทยในทุกด้าน โดยเฉพาะในด้านสุขภาพอนามัย ซึ่งพระองค์ทรงถือว่าปัญหาด้านสุขภาพอนามัยของประชาชนนั้น เป็นปัญหาสำคัญที่ต้องได้รับการแก้ไข ดังพระราชดำรัสที่ว่า “ถ้าคนเรามีสุขภาพเสื่อมโทรม ก็จะไม่สามารถพัฒนาชาติได้ เพราะทรัพยากรที่สำคัญของประเทศชาติ ก็คือพลเมืองนั่นเอง “ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงเป็นห่วง และเอื้ออาทรต่อทุกข์สุขของพสกนิกรอย่างจริงจัง โดยเฉพาะความทุกข์ของไพร่ฟ้าจากพยาธิภัย ในการเสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปทรงเยี่ยมราษฎรตามท้องที่ต่างๆ ทุกครั้ง พระองค์จะทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้มีคณะแพทย์ ทั้งแพทย์ที่เป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญในแต่ละสาขาจากโรงพยาบาลต่างๆ และแพทย์อาสาสมัคร โดยเสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปในขบวนอย่างใกล้ชิด เพื่อที่จะได้รักษาผู้ป่วยไข้ได้ทันที

นอกเหนือจากกีฬาเรือใบแล้ว ยังทรงเล่นกีฬาประเภทอื่น ๆ เช่น แบตมินตัน เทนนิส ยิงปืน เป็นต้น

6.พระราชกรณียกิจด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรม

ทรงตั้งกรมมหรสพขึ้น เพื่อฟื้นฟูศิลปวัฒนธรรมไทย ทรงตั้งโรงละครหลวงขึ้นเพื่อส่งเสริมการแสดงละครในหมู่ข้าราชบริพาร ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ออกแบบอาคารสมัยใหม่เป็นแบบทรงไทย เช่น ตึกอักษรศาสตร์ ซึ่งเป็นอาคารเรียนหลังแรกของจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย และอาคารโรงเรียนวชิราวุธวิทยาลัย
