สถานที่น่าสนใจ ในอุทยานฯ คือ
ทุ่งหญ้ากงวังหรือทุ่งกงวัว
จากหน่วยพิทักษ์ถ้ำห้วยประหลาด บริเวณหลักกม.ที่ 31 ของทางหลวงสายหล่มสัก-ชุมแพ ลึกเข้าไปทางด้านหลังของหน่วยพิทักษ์ถ้ำห้วยประหลาดประมาณ 20 กม. จะมีทุ่งหญ้าตามธรรมชาติที่กว้างหลายตารางกม. เรียกว่า "ทุ่งหญ้ากงวัง" เป็นทุ่งหญ้าที่มีหญ้าขึ้นอยู่นานาชนิด เป็นแหล่งอาหารของสัตว์ป่าที่อาศัยอยู่อย่างมากมาย
สวนสนบ้านแปก
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงหลักกม.ที่ 49 ทางหลวงหมายเลข 12 (หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 5 กม. มีลักษณะเป็นป่าสนสองใบ ขึ้นอยู่เป็นกลุ่มใหญ่เพียงชนิดเดียวตามธรรมชาติต้นไม้พื้นล่างประกอบด้วยทุ่งหญ้าและหญ้าเพ็กเป็นจำนวนมาก
น้ำตกซำผักคาว
อยู่ตอนบนของลำห้วยสนามทราย มีทางเดินเท้าเข้าไปได้ตรงหลักกม.ที่ 64 ของถนนสายหล่มสัก-ชุมแพ ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 400 ม. น้ำตกมีความสูงประมาณ 3 ม.
น้ำตกทรายเงิน
อยู่ห่างจากน้ำตกทรายแก้วประมาณ 700 ม. มีทางเท้าจากถนนสายหล่มสัก-ชุมแพเช่นเดียวกัน ปากทางเข้าน้ำตกอยู่บริเวณหลักกม.ที่ 64.5 น้ำตกมีความสูงประมาณ 5 ม.
น้ำตกทรายทอง
เป็นน้ำตกที่มีความกว้างที่สุดคือ ประมาณ 30 ม. สูง 4 ม. มีบรรยากาศร่มรื่นน่านั่งเล่น พักผ่อนหย่อนใจ โดยเฉพาะในฤดูฝน คือ ประมาณเดือนมิถุนายน-ตุลาคมของทุกปี มีทางเดินเท้ามาทางน้ำตกเหวทราย ห่างกันประมาณ 1 กม.
น้ำผุด
จากน้ำตกทรายทองไปไม่ไกล จะพบกับธรรมชาติที่พิสดารและสวยงาม คือ มีน้ำไหลซึมตามก้อนหินผุดออกมาเป็นบ่อๆ คล้ายๆ กับบ่อน้ำร้อนที่ผุดออก
ภูผาจิต (ภูด่านอีป้อง)
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงหลักกม.ที่ 69 ทางหลวงหมายเลข 12 (หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 10 กม. เส้นทางค่อนข้างลำบาก ใช้เวลาเดินเท้าประมาณ 6-7 ชั่วโมง สภาพป่าสวยงามมีลักษณะเด่นคือ ตั้งอยู่โดดเดี่ยวบนที่ราบสูง ลักษณะสัณฐานคล้ายภูกระดึงแต่เล็กกว่า เป็นภูเขาที่มีที่ราบคล้ายภูกระดึง มีไม้สนขึ้นอยู่ที่เดียวกันประกอบด้วยป่าดงดิบ ป่าเบญจพรรณ และไม้มีค่าหลายชนิด ภูเขาลูกนี้เป็นภูเขาที่สูงที่สุดในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว คือสูง 1,271 ม. จากระดับน้ำทะเล
หนองน้ำขุ่น
เป็นหนองน้ำซึ่งอยู่ในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาว อยู่ในท้องที่อำเภอคอนสาร จังหวัดชัยภูมิ ตัวหนองน้ำอยู่บริเวณข้างลำห้วยน้ำพรม ตำบลห้วยยาง อำเภอคอนสาร จังหวัดชัยภูมิ บริเวณหนองน้ำขุ่นมีป่าสนสลับกับป่าดงดิบ ห่างจากสำนักงานอุทยานฯ น้ำหนาว ติดกับเขตของเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าภูเขียว ซึ่งเป็นป่าผืนใหญ่ติดต่อกัน จึงเป็นแหล่งน้ำที่สำคัญของสัตว์ป่าในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติน้ำหนาวและสัตว์ป่าในเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าภูเขียวข้ามไปมาโดยอาศัยหนองน้ำขุ่นนี้เป็นแหล่งน้ำ
น้ำตกตาดพรานบา
ทางเข้าอยู่ใกล้ที่ว่าการอำเภอน้ำหนาว กม.ที่ 20 ทางหลวงสายบ้านห้วย-สนามทราย อำเภอหล่มเก่า เป็นทางลูกรังรถยนต์สามารถเข้าถึงได้ จะมีน้ำตกขนาดใหญ่ตกลงมาจากหนัาผาสูงประมาณ 20 ม. น้ำจะตกจากหน้าผาพุ่งเป็นลำสู่เบื้องล่าง โดยลำน้ำจะตกลงสู่เบื้องล่างเป็นสองชั้นน้ำตกแห่งนี้มีน้ำตกตลอดทั้งปี อันเกิดจากลำน้ำเชิญ สาเหตุที่มีชื่อว่าตาดพรานบาก็เนื่องจากพรานบาเป็นผู้เข้าไปพบน้ำตกแห่งนี้เป็นคนแรก
ถ้ำผาหงษ์
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกม.ที่ 39 ทางหลวงหมายเลข 12 (หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้า ประมาณ 300 กม. มีลักษณะเป็นเขาสูง มีทางเดินเท้าขึ้นยอดเขาประมาณ 100 ม. เพื่อชมวิวทิวทัศน์ และชมพระอาทิตย์ตกในตอนเย็น ภายในถ้ำมีหินงอกหินย้อยสวยงาม
สวนสนภูกุ่มข้าว
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงหลักกม.ที่ 53 ทางหลวงหมายเลข 12 (หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) มีทางลูกรังระยะทาง 15 กม. มีลักษณะเป็นป่าสนสามใบ ลำต้นขนาดสูงใหญ่ ขึ้นอยู่ตามธรรมชาติ อย่างหนาแน่น พื้นที่ประมาณ 10 ตรกม. เมื่อยืนอยู่บนเนินเขาภูกุ่มข้าว จะเห็นยอดสนอยู่ใน ระดับสายตาเป็นแนวติดต่อกันทั้งสี่ด้าน ส่วนทางทิศใต้จะมองเห็นอ่างเก็บน้ำของเขื่อนจุฬาภรณ์หรือเขื่อนน้ำพรม
น้ำตกทรายแก้ว
อยู่ห่างจากน้ำตกซำผักคาวประมาณ 500 ม. มีทางเท้าซึ่งเดินจากถนนสาย หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ ตรงกม.ที่ 67.5 ม. น้ำตกมีความสูงประมาณ 5 ม.
น้ำตกเหวทราย
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงหลักกม.ที่ 67 ทางหลวงหมายเลข 12 (หล่มสัก-ชุมแพ) ระยะทางเดินเท้า 1 กม. เป็นน้ำตกที่เกิดขึ้นจากห้วยสนามทราย ซึ่งต้นห้วยอยู่ที่ป่าดงดิบที่เรียกว่า ดงแหน่งไหลผ่านป่าซำผักคาว ลำห้วยสนามทรายนี้เป็นแนวธรรมชาติที่แบ่งเขตแดนระหว่างอำเภอหล่มเก่า จังหวัดเพชรบูรณ์ และอำเภอคอนสาร จังหวัดชัยภูมิ น้ำในห้วยสนามทรายจะไหลไปลงลำน้ำเชิญ และลำน้ำเชิญจะไหลผ่านลงสู่แม่น้ำพอง จนถึงเขื่อนอุบลรัตน์ จังหวัดขอนแก่น น้ำตกเหวทรายนี้เป็นต้นน้ำตกที่มีความสูงสุดในบรรดาน้ำตกทั้ง 5 แห่ง ซึ่งเกิดจากลำห้วยสนามทราย มีความสูง 20 ม. บริเวณลำห้วยใต้น้ำตกมีแอ่งน้ำ สามารถเล่นน้ำได้มีบริเวณสำหรับตั้งแค้มป์หรือเต็นท์พักแรมได้ ใต้น้ำตกมีชะง่อนหินเป็นเพิงสามารถหลบฝนหรือพักแรมได้ บรรยากาศตามบริเวณลำห้วยน่าเดินเล่น เพราะมีต้นไม้ปกคลุมตลอด
หนองปลาไหล
อยู่ห่างจากหน่วยพิทักษ์อุทยานฯ ชำบอน ประมาณ 5 กม. หนองปลาไหลเป็นหนองน้ำที่อยู่ใจกลางของป่าสน มีน้ำอยู่ตลอดปี เป็นหนองน้ำที่มีปลาไหลอยู่ชุกชุม จึงได้ชื่อว่า หนองปลาไหล ในฤดูแล้งบริเวณทุ่งหญ้าหนองปลาไหลจะถูกไฟไหม้เกือบทุกปี พอฤดูฝนมาถึงรอบบริเวณหนองน้ำ พรรณไม้ต่าง ๆ ก็จะเริ่มผลิดอกออกช่อ ทุ่งหญ้าก็แลดูเขียวชอุ่มมีชีวิตชีวาขึ้นหมุนเวียนเช่นนี้อยู่ตลอดไป
ผาล้อม ผากอง
ทางเข้าอยู่ตรงกม.ที่ 40 ทางหลวงสายบ้านห้วยสนามทราย-อำเภอหล่มเก่าระยะทางเดินเท้าประมาณ 5-7 กม. เป็นภูเขาที่สูงจากน้ำทะเลประมาณ 1,134 ม. เป็นเขาหินปูนเมื่อขึ้นไปบนยอดเขา จะสามารถมองเห็นทิวทัศน์รอบ ๆ บริเวณได้ สภาพป่าส่วนใหญ่เป็นป่าดงดิบ และป่าเบญจพรรณ ประกอบด้วยพันธุ์ไม้ที่มีค่ามาก บริเวณใกล้เคียงยังมีผากลางโหล่น มีความสูงประมาณ 874 ม. ผาต้นฮอม มีความสูงประมาณ 900 ฟุต และหน้าผาอื่นๆ อีกหลายแห่ง
ทุ่งหญ้ากงวังหรือทุ่งกงวัว
