ในจดหมายเหตุของ ‘ฟอร์บัง’ นายเรือโทชาวฝรั่งเศส สมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช ครั้งหนึ่ง ฟอร์บังได้เข้าเฝ้าติดตามดูการคล้องช้างกับพระนารายณ์ และจดบันทึกถึงสิ่งที่พบ ความตอนหนึ่งว่า
