The Library is a stunning conceptual hotel built in a semi-minimalist architectural style, located at the heart of Chaweng
Beach in Koh Samui, Thailand. The project was shaped by the hands of an island local who was inspired by books and a
simple lifestyle philosophy. “The book is never out of date,” says Mr. Kasemtham Sornsong, Owner and Managing
Director of The Library. “As time passes, many things will change, but the book is immortal.” Working on a 6400 square
meter plot of heritage land with a 50-metre beachfront area, Mr. Sornsong, together with concept designer, Ms. Tirawan
Songsawat created what is now the trendiest hotel in Thailand (2012 Traveler’s Choice Awards, Tripadvisor.com).
The Library has a total of 26 unique accommodations in the form of Exotic Suites located on the ground floor, Smart
Studios on the upper levels and a new ultra-luxurious unit called The Bookmark which is closest to the sea. In order to
maintain the site’s natural ecology, Mr. Sornsong and Ms. Songsawat realized the design without the use of bulldozers.
Thus in addition to the ocean, each room provides guests with a glimpse of age-old trees, lovingly preserved and now
part of the complex.
Interspersed with works of art and sculpture, The Library and its surroundings boast a balance of nature and culture, in
which verdant gardens, blue waters and pale beaches are offset by a bold color scheme dominated by white, red, black
and gray. Interiors bathed in an ultra-minimalist palette are completed with modern facilities such as 42-inch plasma
screen televisions with DVD players, iPod touch, and iMAC computers with high-speed Internet connection. True to the
designers’ belief that a good holiday equals an opportunity to enjoy a good book, guests are invited to lounge and enjoy
the vast collection of books available, which gives The Library its distinctive name.
