เมื่อเวลาประมาณ 13.30 น. สำนักเฝ้าระวังแผ่นดินไหว กรมอุตุนิยมวิทยา ได้ประกาศว่าเกิด “แผ่นดินไหวทางทะเล ความรุนแรง 4.0 ทางตอนใต้ของ อ.เกาะยาว จ.พังงา ลึกจากพื้นดินประมาณ 2 กม. เมื่อเวลาประมาณ 13.00น. ของวันนี้ (20 ก.พ.2558)
โดย นายสมศักดิ์ ขาวสุวรรณ์ ผู้อำนวยการศูนย์เตือนภัยพิบัติแห่งชาติ เปิดเผยกับไทยรัฐออนไลน์ว่า ได้รับรายงานว่าเกิดเหตุแผ่นดินไหวดังกล่าวจริง สามารถรับรู้แรงสะเทือนได้ใน 3 จังหวัด คือ พังงา ภูเก็ต และกระบี่ในบางพื้นที่ ซึ่งขณะนี้ได้ประสานกับเจ้าหน้าที่ในแต่ละพื้นที่เพื่อประกาศและแจ้งเตือนแก่ประชาชนแล้ว ทั้งนี้ยังไม่มีรายงานความเสียหายจากเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าวและไม่ได้มีการแจ้งเตือนภัยสึนามิแต่อย่างใด เชื่อว่าจะอยู่ในความดูแลของเจ้าหน้าที่ได้โดยสงบ
