ประวัติของโรงเรียน
โรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา โรงเรียนสตรีของรัฐบาลแห่งแรกในจังหวัดนครราชสีมา เปิดทำการสอนเมื่อวันที่ 18 พฤษภาคม พ.ค. 2468 โดยแรกเริ่มได้ใช่ชื่อว่า “โรงเรียนประจำจังหวัด” อยู่ในบริเวณวัดสุทธจินดา ทำการสอนตั้งแต่ชั้นมูล (เด็กเล็ก) และในปี พ.ศ. 2470 ได้โอนนักเรียนหญิงทั้งหมดจากโรงเรียนประจำมณฑลนครราชสีมาไปอยู่รวมกัน และจึงเปิดสอนเฉพาะนักเรียนหญิง

พ.ศ. 2475 ก่อตั้งโรงเรียนเป็น “โรงเรียนประจำจังหวัด” ตั้งอยู่บริเวณวัดสุทธจินดา
พ.ศ. 2477 เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น “โรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา” เป็นโรงเรียนหญิง คู่กับโรงเรียนชายประจำจังหวัด "ราชสีมาวิทยาลัย"

พ.ศ. 2519 นางสาวลาวัลย์ ถนองจันทร์ ได้รับแต่ตั้งให้ไปดำรงตำแหน่งรองอธิบดีกรมสามัญศึกษากระทรวงศึกษาธิการ และกรมสามัญศึกษาได้แต่งตั้งให้ นางฉวี ถีระวงษ์ มาดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยาแทน และสร้างอาคารอเนกประสงค์ชั้นล่างเป็นห้องสมุด ซึ่งได้รับ พระราชทานนามจากสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี ว่า “อาคารวิทยาสมาคร” และเสด็จพระราชดำเนินเปิดอาคาร เมื่อวันที่ 9 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2524
พ.ศ. 2528 นางฉวี ถีระวงษ์ เกษียณอายุราชการ กรมสามัญศึกษาแต่ตั้งนางสมพงศ์ ศิริวัฒน์ มาดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา
