การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยแบบผสมผสาน (Mixed Method) ด้วยวิธี Explanatory Research โดยได้ทำการทบทวนแนวคิดและทฤษฎีจากงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องและมีการสัมภาษณ์เบื้องต้นจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญจำนวน 5 ท่านในอุตสาหกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องและนักวิชาการเพื่อนำข้อมูลมาสรุปเชิงคุณภาพกับบริบทที่ทำการศึกษาเพื่อนำมาใช้ในการกำหนดกรอบแนวคิดของการศึกษา เพื่อให้ได้ข้อค้นพบและประเด็นที่สำคัญ ในการศึกษาแบบจำลองเชิงสาเหตุของรูปแบบความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างผู้ซื้อและผู้จัดจำหน่ายของวิสาหกิจขนาดกลางและขนาดย่อม SMEs ภาคการผลิตในประเทศไทยเพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการสร้างตัวแบบที่ดีให้กับผู้ประกอบการ และใช้เครื่องมือแบบสอบถามที่ได้สร้างขึ้นจากงานวิจัยต่างๆ มาใช้ในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลจากแบบสอบถาม จากผู้ประกอบการ SMEs จำนวน 400 ราย ในประเทศไทยเพื่อนำกลับมาวิเคราะห์สมการโครงสร้าง (Structure Equation Model: SEM) เพื่อระบุความกลมกลืนของแบบจำลอง และปัจจัยเหตุและผลของตัวแปรต่างๆ และนำข้อมูลแบบจำลองที่ได้รับจากการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณมาทำการสร้างแบบสัมภาษณ์และดำเนินการสนทนากลุ่มจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญในด้านการบริหารจัดการ ประกอบการและนักวิชาการ จำนวน 7 ท่าน เพื่อยีนยีนแบบจำลองว่ามีความเหมาะสมและสามารถนำไปใช้ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผล
