ผมมองว่าพุทธศาสนามีอิทธิพลต่อชาวตะวันตกมากไม่เพียงแต่เฉพาะในประเทศนิวซีแลนด์เท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมถึงประเทศต่างๆในยุโรปอีกด้วย เช่น อเมริกา ออสเตเรีย เป็นต้น จึงทำให้ชาวตะวันตกมีวิถีชีวิตและแนวความคิดตามหลักพุทธศาสนามากขึ้น ซึ่งสังเกตได้ชัดเจนจากอิทธิพลทางสังคม ซึ่งผมจะได้กล่าวต่อไป
อิทธิพลทางสังคมที่ชาวตะวันตกได้รับคือเป็นการตอบสนองความต้องการของชาวตะวันตกได้ เพราะคำสอนทางพระพุทธศาสนาเป็นสัจธรรมที่สามารถนำไปพฤติปฏิบัติและพิสูจน์ให้เห็นผลได้ตามหลักธรรมชาติ อันเป็นพื้นฐานแห่งความต้องการของชนชาวยุโรป ที่ชอบพิสูจน์ค้นคว้าหาความจริง จึงช่วยให้เกิดความสุขทางจิตใจมากกว่าสิ่งอื่น และยังเป็นศูนย์กลางการศึกษาทางด้านวัฒนธรรมประเพณีของพุทธศาสนา ที่ช่วยให้สังคมชาวยุโรป และเอเชียมีความเป็นอยู่ผูกพันกันมากขึ้น และที่สำคัญยังมีการเปิดโรงเรียนพุทธศาสนาให้กับบุคคลที่สนใจอีกด้วย
