การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อทำการศึกษาและวิจัยถึงคุณสมบัติที่พึงประสงค์ของผู้จัดการโครงการและเพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการศึกษาพัฒนาและปรับปรุงศักยภาพบุคคลากรของประทศไทยในสาขาอาชีพผู้จัดการโครงการ ใช้วิธีดำเนินการวิจัยโดยการทำแบบสอบถามและขอคำแนะนำไปยังผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิและผู้มีประสบการณ์ทางด้านงานบริหารโครงการรวมไปถึงผู้บริหารระดับสูงในบริษัทจัดหางานต่างๆในประเทศไทยรวมไปถึงการศึกษาหาข้อมูลในประกาศรับสมัครงานในตำแหน่งผู้จัดการโครงการในประเทศไทยและต่างประเทศโดยได้ทำการเปรียบเทียบถึงคุณสมบัติของผู้จัดการโครงการกับสถาบัน PMI ซึ่งเป็นสถาบันที่ออกใบรับรองคุณวุฒิทางด้านการบริหารโครงการสำหรับบุคคลที่ผ่านการทดสอบความรู้โดยเป็นที่เป็นที่ยอมรับและเป็นมาตรฐานระดับสากลทั่วโลก โดยผลของการศึกษาในงายวิจัยนี้ได้แสดงให้ทราบถึงคุณสมบัติที่พึงประสงค์ในแหน่งผู้จัดการโครงการซึ่งมีอยู่หลายประการด้วยกันดังปรากฎรายละเอียดอยู่ในงานวิจัยฉบับนี้ต่อไป
