Research undertaken on this Paper reviews the antimicrobial South African Medicinal Plants during the
period from 1,997 to 2,008. Antimicrobial methods (Diffusion Disc, Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), Bioautography)
are briefly discussed and an Analysis of the Publications reviewed Indicates that the majority
of papers antimicrobial use MIC assays for determination. Investigations on antimicrobial extracts are
Presented where the Most Active Plants are identified from Screening Publications. A Summary of Some
bioactive compounds are given restricted to papers with Data Reporting quantitative antimicrobial Activity
Equivalent to or Below 200? G / ml. Activities on the antimicrobial Essential oils of Indigenous Medicinal
Aromatic Plants are also reviewed. What is given on an Overview Activities (extracts, oils and compounds)
should be considered Noteworthy for Publication. Studies focusing on geographical ethnobotany, specific
pathogenesis, formulation and in vivo Investigations aspects are examined. Future Recommendations to
consider include pathogen selection, dosage and Interactive Studies administrations.
