ตำบลสามควายเผือกเป็นชื่อที่มาจากวัดซึ่งมีประวัติ คือในสมัยก่อน วัดถูกย้ายบ่อยๆจนถึงสมัยพระอธิการชาได้ย้ายมาอยู่ ตรงที่ปัจจุบัน โดยมีนายหมวดอินทร์เป็นผู้อุปการะและมีการขุดดินทำเป็นอิฐเพื่อก่อสร้างโบสถ์ชาวบ้านเรียกว่า หนองเตาอิฐ แล้วตั้งชื่อวัดไว้ว่า วัดอินทราราม ตามชื่อของนายหมวดอินทร์ ต่อมา มีพ่อค้าสัตว์ต่างๆโดยใช้พาหนะเกวียนเทียมควายบรรทุกของหลายเล่มผ่านมาพักอยู่ข้างสระน้ำซึ่งต้นไทรใหญ่ข้างวัด พ่อค้าให้ควายลงกินน้ำในสระมีควายเผือก 3 ตัวคือ มีแม่ควายลูกควายและพ่อควายเมื่อมาหากินแล้วจะเดินผ่านคลองที่อยู่หลังวัดในปัจจุบัน
เมื่อเดินลงคลองปรากฏว่าควายทั้งสามตัวได้จมน้ำตายหมดจึงมีที่มาของชื่อวัดสามกระบือเผือก
