การดูแลตนเองในหญิงตั้งครรภ์มีความสำคัญอย่างยิ่ง เพราะถ้าระหว่างการตั้งครรภ์ หญิงตั้งครรภ์สามารถปฏิบัติตนได้ถูกต้องเหมาะสมก็จะส่งผลให้มารดาและทารกมีสุขภาพแข็งแรง การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงสำรวจเพื่อศึกษาการเตรียมตัวดูแลตนเองและทารกแรกเกิดของหญิงตั้งครรภ์โรงพยาบาลศูนย์สกลนคร กลุ่มตัวอย่างเลือกแบบเจาะจง คือหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่มารับบริการฝากครรภ์ที่แผนกฝากครรภ์และวางแผนครอบครัวโรงพยาบาลศูนย์สกลนคร ระหว่างวันที่ 21 กรกฎาคม ถึง 31 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2558 จำนวน 300 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บข้อมูลเป็นแบบสัมภาษณ์ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้สถิติ ได้แก่ จำนวน ค่าเฉลี่ย ร้อยละ และส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน
ผลการวิจัย พบว่าส่วนใหญ่มีการตั้งครรภ์อยู่ระหว่าง 1-3 ครั้ง คิดเป็นร้อยละ 92.7 กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่เคยตั้งครรภ์พบว่าส่วนใหญ่มีบุตร 1-2 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 45.0 บุตรคนสุดท้ายอายุระหว่าง 1-4 ปี มากที่สุด คิดเป็นร้อยละ 23.0 หญิงตั้งครรภ์มีความรู้และการปฏิบัติเกี่ยวกับการเตรียมตัวดูแลตนเองและทารกแรกเกิด อยู่ในระดับสูง คิดเป็นร้อยละ 77.7 และ 93.0 ตามลำดับ
