“เด็กปฐมวัยทำไมต้องจัดการศึกษาให้ จำเป็นแค่ไหน”นี่คือคำถามที่ผู้ใหญ่ นักวิชาการ ผู้บริหาร หรือผู้ปกครอง หลายท่านตั้งคำถาม หลายคนคิดว่า เด็กอายุแค่ 3 – 5 ขวบ จะเรียนรู้ จะคิดอะไรได้มากแค่ไหน แค่เลี้ยงให้เติบโตอย่างสมบูรณ์ก่อนก็น่าจะพอ

นั่นคือความคิดของผู้ใหญ่บางคน แต่หารู้ไม่ว่าเด็กปฐมวัยเป็นวันแห่งการเรียนรู้ เป็นวัยแห่งความคิดสร้างสรรค์ ต่างประเทศ เช่น ญี่ปุ่น เยอรมัน ออสเตรเลีย หรืออีกหลายๆ ประเทศ ได้ให้ความสำคัญกับการศึกษาระดับปฐมวัยเป็นอย่างมาก เพราะเขาเชื่อว่า เด็ก คือ รากฐานของมนุษย์ อยากให้ผู้ใหญ่หรือบุคคลในสังคม มีคุณลักษณะหรือมีความสามารถอย่างไร ต้องปลูกฝังตั้งแต่เล็กๆ เหมือนที่เขาว่า ไม้อ่อนดัดง่าย ไม้แก่ดัดยาก ซึ่งปัจจุบันเราชอบบ่นกันว่า ทำไหมเด็กสมัยนี้(เด็กระดับประถม มัธยม หรืออุดมศึกษา) ไม่รู้จักคิด ไม่รู้จักพูด ไม่มีความคิดสร้างสรรค์ ทำอะไรไม่เป็น ซึ่งเราลืมมองย้อนกลับไปว่าตอนเด็กเล็กๆ เราปลูกฝังเขา หรือเราฝึกฝนเขาอย่างไร ซึ่งจริงๆ แล้วเด็กสามารถเรียนรู้ได้จากสิ่งแวดล้อมและปัจจัยอีกมากมาย พัฒนาการ และพฤติกรรมที่เกิดขึ้นตอนโตสืบเนื่องมาจาก การเลี้ยงดู การปลูกฝัง การอบรมสั่งสอน หรือการจัดการศึกษาให้กับเด็กปฐมวัย ซึ่งสอดคล้องกับทฤษฎีของเพียเจต์ (Piaget) (อ้างในพรรณทิพย์ ศิริวรรณบุศย์,2551) กำหนดหลักของพัฒนาการไว้ 3 หัวข้อ คือ
