นายยุทธศักดิ์ สุภสร ผู้ว่าการการท่องเที่ยวแห่งประเทศไทย (ททท.) เปิดเผยว่า ททท.อยู่ระหว่างการจัดทำแผนการท่องเที่ยวยุค 4.0 ซึ่งเป็นการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวบนฐานนวัตกรรม ที่ต้องทำการตลาดสมัยใหม่ เช่น ผ่านทางแอพพลิเคชั่นโทรศัพท์มือถือ และท่องเที่ยวในยุค 4.0 นี้ ต้องพิจารณาเรื่องการบริหารจัดการนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติ ที่อาจจะเข้ามาท่องเที่ยวในไทยสูงถึง 40 ล้านคน มากกว่าครึ่งหนึ่งของประชากรไทย จึงต้องมีการบริหารจัดการที่ดี ทั้งในเรื่องของโครงสร้างพื้นฐานที่จะรองรับ เช่น สนามบิน การดูแลรักษาความปลอดภัย การสร้างความสมดุลกับสิ่งแวดล้อม ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่ต้องนำมาพิจารณาทั้งหมด

ทั้งนี้ เมื่อมองอุตสาหกรรมการท่องเที่ยว ในยุค 1.0 เป็นช่วงที่มีนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติยังไม่เยอะมาก จำนวนไม่เกิน 10 ล้านคน ขณะที่ยุค 2.0 มีนักท่องเที่ยวไม่เกิน 20 ล้านคน ในยุค 3.0 มีนักท่องเที่ยวไม่เกิน 30 ล้านคน เช่นในปี 2558 มีจำนวน 29.8 ล้านคน แต่ในปี 2559 หน่วยงาน เช่น กระทรวงการคลังและสำนักงานคณะกรรมการพัฒนาการเศรษฐกิจและสังคมแห่งชาติ (สศช.) ยังมองว่าจะมีนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติประมาณ 32 ล้านคน ซึ่งเป็นปัญหาที่ต้องจัดการให้เกิดความสมดุลให้ได้ ไม่ให้มีผลกระทบต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม ฉะนั้น การวางแผนการท่องเที่ยวในยุค 4.0 ต้องเริ่มให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลง ตั้งแต่แผนปฏิบัติการท่องเที่ยวในปี 2560 ที่จะเริ่มตั้งแต่เดือน ต.ค.นี้เป็นต้นไป.
