• ประวัติศาสตร์เกาหลีในยุคแรกๆ (57 ปีก่อนคริสตกาล ถึงค.ศ. 668) เกาหลีปกครองด้วย 3 อาณาจักรคือ โคกุเรียว (Koguryo) เป็กเช (Paekche) และชิลลา (Shilla) ชึ่งปกครองทั้งคาบสมุทรเกาหลีและพื้นที่ส่วนใหญ่ในแมนจูเรีย ต่อมาในปี ค.ศ. 676 อาณาจักรชิลลาก็รวมคาบสมุทรทั้งหมดเข้าไว้ด้วยกันเป็นครั้งแรกและได้สถาปนาอาณาจักรใหม่ชื่อว่าอาณาจักรโคเรียว
• อาณาจักรโคเรียว (Koryo,ค.ศ.918-1392) เป็นยุคที่ปกครองโดยขุนนาง มีศาสนาพุทธเป็นศาสนาประจำชาติ ชื่อ “เกาหลี” (Korea) ก็เพี้ยนมาจาก “Koryo” นั้นเอง

• สงครามเกาหลีเริ่มขึ้นในวันที่ 25 มิถุนายน ค.ศ.1950 โดยทางเกาหลีเหนือบุกรุกทางเกาหลีใต้ ข้อตกลงสงบศึกเกิดขึ้นใน 3 ปีต่อมา โดยมีการกำหนดเส้นขนานที่ 38 และเขตปลอดทหาร จากนั้นเกาหลีใต้ได้พยายามฟื้นฟูตัวเองจากภาวะสงคราม ซึ่งประสบความสำเร็จอย่างสูง ทั้งในด้านความมั่นคงและเศรษฐกิจ
