Therefore, language plays a very important role when people communicate with other people in different countries.
Language which is frequently used in international communication is English. English is widely used as a means of communication for people with different language background all over the world in their activities. Most people use English in their activities in daily life. Usually it is used for business purposes, technology,academic, occopation and so on.
English is a global language learned by many countries in the world either as aforeign language or the second langusge. Without using English as a communication tool, everybody will be left behind bacause communication is a bridge to get information , knowledge and cultue. Crystal said, ‘’Of course English is a global language, they would say.you hear it on television spoke by politicians from all over the world’’. Seeing English as aglobal language,most people all over the world try to be able to communicate each other in English.
English as a language has four basic skills; they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Listening and reading are receptive skills,and speaking and writing are productive skills. Learning reading si very important. One of the reasons why it is important to read is because it can help students to catch the idea and information from the printed languages with reading, students can achieve the goal in learning process.
According to Staiger,”Reading is a term used to refer to an interaction by which meaning encoded in visual stimuli by an author becomes meaning in the mind of the reader.’ It can be cocluded that reading is indirect communication between the reader and writer.
Another reason why it is important to read is because reading also helps the students to enhance their imagination. According to Beuhl:

Considering the importance of grammar in reading comprehension,and looking at problems above, the writer is interested in conducting a research entiled the relasionship between students’ grammar mastery and reading comprehension of the SMPN NEGRI 104 Jakarta
B. The Identifications of the Problem
From the previous discussion of the background above, there are some identification of the problem.
1. What do the teachers do to impress the students’ simple present tense mastery as SMPN NEGRI 104 Jakarta?
2. How do the students’ respond in the comprehension lesson at SMPN 104 Jakarta?
3. Is there any relationship between students’ Simple present tense mastery and reading comprehension?

C. The Limitation of the Problem
In this research, the writer limits the seventh grade students at SMPN 104 East Jakarta in thinking more about the relationship of the students’ simple present tense to their reading comprehension.


D. The Question of the Problem
Based on the background of study above, the question of the problem is formulated as follows: ‘’Is there any significant relationship between students’ simple present tense and reading comprehension on the seventh grade students at SMPN NEGRI 104

In line with the question of the problem above, the study is aimed at finding out where or not there is a relationship between students’ simple present tense to their reading comprehension of the seventh grade students at SMPN NEGRI 104 Jakarta.
