เทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์ เป็นการบริหารราชการส่วนท้องถิ่นในรูปแบบเทศบาลในเขตอำเภอเมืองนครสวรรค์ จังหวัดนครสวรรค์ เดิมเป็นเทศบาลเมืองนครสวรรค์ ต่อมาได้ยกฐานะเป็นเทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2538 มีพื้นที่ครอบคลุมตำบลปากน้ำโพทั้งตำบล ตำบลนครสวรรค์ตกเฉพาะหมู่ที่ 1, 4, 5, 9 และ 10 ตำบลนครสวรรค์ออก เฉพาะหมู่ที่ 1, 4, 5, 6 และ 7 ตำบลวัดไทรย์เฉพาะหมู่ที่ 10, 11, 12 และ 13 และตำบลแควใหญ่ เฉพาะหมู่ที่ 4, 7 และ 10 มีพื้นที่รวมทั้งสิ้น 27.78 ตารางกิโลเมตร เป็นที่ตั้งของห้างร้านต่าง ๆ รวมทั้งสถานที่ราชการสำคัญหลายแห่งของจังหวัดนครสวรรค์
เทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์เดิมมีฐานะเป็นสุขาภิบาล โดยพระราชกฤษฎีกายกฐานะเป็นสุขาภิบาล พ.ศ. 2475 เรียกว่า "สุขาภิบาลเมืองนครสวรรค์" ต่อมาได้รับการยกฐานะเป็นเทศบาลเมืองนครสวรรค์ เมื่อวันที่ 10 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2478 มีพื้นที่ปกครองประมาณ 1.47 ตารางกิโลเมตร และได้มีพระราชกฤษฎีกาเปลี่ยนแปลงเขตปกครอง 2 ครั้ง ครั้งแรกเมื่อวันที่ 26 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2493 ขยายพื้นที่เป็น 8.85 ตารางกิโลเมตร ครั้งที่สองเมื่อวันที่ 21 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2522 มีพื้นที่ปกครองประมาณ 27.87 ตารางกิโลเมตร ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ 24 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2538 ก็ได้มีพระราชกฤษฎีกายกฐานขึ้นเป็น เทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์ มีผลบังคับใช้ตั้งแต่วันที่ 25 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2538 เป็นต้นมา
อาคารสำนักงานเทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์ อาคารปัจจุบันเริ่มดำเนินการก่อสร้างตั้งแต่ปลายปี พ.ศ. 2536 บนเนื้อที่เดิมบริเวณถนนอรรถกวี เชิงเขากบ โดยรื้ออาคารหลังเดิมออก กำหนดการก่อสร้างให้แล้วเสร็จภายในปี พ.ศ. 2542 เพื่อเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา 6 รอบ ในวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2542 โดยได้รับพระราชทานนามอาคารว่า "อาคารเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 6 รอบพระชนมพรรษา" ในการนี้เทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์ ได้รับพระราชทานจากสมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดา สยามบรมราชกุมารี เสด็จทรงเปิดอาคาร เมื่อวันที่ 14 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2542

อาคารสำนักงานในปัจจุบัน ก่อสร้างเป็นอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก 5 ชั้น พร้อมดาดฟ้า มีขนาดกว้างประมาณ 42 เมตร ยาว 126 เมตร มีพื้นที่ใช้สอยประมาณ 20,000 ตารางเมตร ภายในอาคารหลังนี้ประกอบไปด้วยส่วนการงานต่าง ๆ ทั้งที่เป็นส่วนสำนักงานและส่วนสำหรับการบริการประชาชน โถงเอนกประสงค์ ห้องประชุมจุคนได้ประมาณ 500 คน ห้องสมุด ห้องแสดงนิทรรศการประวัติความเป็นมาและผลงานโครงการที่สำคัญของเทศบาล ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้เป็นอาคารสำนักงานที่สมบูรณ์แบบและเพียงพอต่อการดำเนินงานของเทศบาลนครนครสวรรค์ในอนาคต และเพื่อให้เป็นศูนย์กลางในการติดต่อกประสานงานระหว่างหน่วยงานต่าง ๆ รวมทั้งใช้เป็นที่จัดประชุมสัมมนาในระดับจังหวัดและภูมิภาค
