ประเพณีทำบุญเดือน ๑๐ ชาวพัทลุงและชาวภาคใต้ทั่วไปเรียกว่า “วันชิงเปรต” หรือ “ประเพณีชิงเปรต” แต่ทางภาคกลางเรียกว่า “วันสารท” หรือ “ประเพณีวันสารทไทย” เป็นการทำบุญอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้แก่เปตชนหรือบิดามารดา ปู่ย่า ตายาย ที่ล่วงลับไปแล้วตามคติความเชื่อของชาวบ้านทั่วไป โดยการทำบุญบริจาคทานถวายพระภิกษุสงฆ์เป็นการอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้กับผู้ตาย
