เมื่อวันที่ 2 พ.ค.2556 นายเอกภพ จันทร์เพ็ญ หน.สนง.ป้องกันและบรรเทาสาธารณภัยจังหวัดกาญจนบุรี กล่าวหลังการร่วมประชุมรับฟังปัญหาภัยแล้งในพื้นที่ อ.เลาขวัญ จ.กาญจนบุรีว่า จังหวัดกาญจนบุรีได้ประสบปัญหาภัยแล้งมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง จนเมื่อ 22 เม.ย.2556 ที่ผ่านมา นายชัยวัฒน์ ลิมป์วรรณธะ ผวจ.กาญจนบุรี ได้ลงนามประกาศเขตภัยพิบัติภัยแล้งจำนวน 6 อำเภอ คือ อ.บ่อพลอย อ.พนมทวน อ.หนองปรือ อ.เลาขวัญ อ.เมืองกาญจนบุรี และ อ.ห้วยกระเจา โดยภัยพิบัติครอบคลุม 36 ตำบล 358 หมู่บ้าน ราษฎรได้รับความเดือดร้อน 40,011 ครัวเรือน จำนวน 100,473 คน พื้นที่ที่สำรวจแล้ว 2 อำเภอ คือ บ่อพลอยและพนมทวน รายงานว่าพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมเสียหาย 27,570 ไร่ และคาดว่าจะเสียหายอีก 24,652 ไร่
