สวนสัตว์สงขลาเป็นสวนสัตว์แห่งแรกของภาคใต้ ตั้งอยู่ท่ามกลางขุนเขาและโอบล้อมด้วยทะเลสาบสงขลา บริเวณเขารูปช้าง อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดสงขลาได้เปิดให้บริการอย่างเป็นทางการเมื่อวันที่ 3 ตุลาม พ.ศ. 2541 ซึ่งปัจจุบันมีสัตว์ต่างๆให้ประชาชนชาวจังหวัดสงขลาและจังหวัดใกล้เคียงได้ชม เช่น สมเสร็จ กระจง อูฐ ลามา ยีราฟ หมี เสือ ลิง ชะนี กวาง ละมั่ง เก้ง นกสวยงาม เช่น นกแก้ว นกมาร์คอว์ นกคาสโชวารี นกฟลามิงโกและสัตว์อื่นๆ อีกมากมาย

สิ่งที่น่าสนใจ

มีสัตว์มากมายหลายชนิด ทั้งที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดในประเทศและต่างประเทศ เช่น อูฐ นกชนิดต่างๆ วัวแดง เสือ จระเข้ เป็นต้น นอกเหนือจากสัตว์ป่าชนิดต่างๆ อันควรค่าแก่การศึกษา สวนสัตว์สงขลายังมีจุดเด่นที่นักท่องเที่ยวไม่ควรพลาดคือ จุดชมวิวซึ่งสามารถมองเห็นทัศนียภาพของเมืองสงขลา บริเวณนั้นมีร้านอาหารไว้คอยบริการนักท่องเที่ยว นอกจากนี้ มีรูปปั้นไดโนเสาร์และมนุษย์ดึกดำบรรพ์และสัตว์ป่าที่หายากจัดแสดงไว้ให้

1. ส่วนจัดแสดงสัตว์เท้ากีบ

จัดแสดงสัตว์หลากหลายชนิดได้แก่ กวางชนิดต่างๆ เช่น กวางดาว ละมั่ง (ละอง) กวางป่า เก้งแดง เก้งหม้อ กระจง เลียงผา วัวแดง กระทิงและในโซนนี้ได้จัดแสดงสัตว์ที่มีน้ำหนักตัวมากๆ ไว้ด้วย คือ สถานที่จัดแสดงช้าง และสถานที่จัดแสดงฮิปโปโปเตมัส

2. ส่วนจัดแสดงสัตว์ปีก

จัดแสดงสัตว์ปีกทั้งในและต่างประเทศตระกูลนกแก้ว นกมาคอว์ นกน้ำ นกเงือกไก่ฟ้าและนกสวยงามหลากหลายชนิดที่หาดูได้ยาก สำหรับนกเงือกนั้นในเมืองไทยมีสายพันธุ์อยู่ 13 ชนิด ที่สวนสัตว์สงขลามีจัดแสดงอยู่ 6 ชนิด

3. ศูนย์เสือ

ประกอบด้วยเสือชนิดต่างๆ เช่น เสือโคร่งพันธุ์เบงกอล เสือโคร่งพันธุ์อินโดจีน เสือจากัวร์ดำ เสือดาว เสือลายเมฆ และสัตว์ตระกูลเสืออีกหลายๆ ชนิด ที่หาดูได้ยาก จากศูนย์เสือขึ้นไปประมาณ 100 เมตร เป็นสถานที่จัดแสดงหมี

4. ส่วนจัดแสดงสัตว์ประเภทลิง

จัดแสดงลิงชิมแพนซี ลิงอุรังอุตัง ลิงไทยชนิดต่างๆ ค่าง ชะนีฯลฯ ปลพได้จัดแสดงสถานที่ไว้ให้มีความเหมาะสมกับสัตว์แต่ละประเภทและใกล้เคียงกับที่อยู่ของสัตว์ในธรรมชาติมากที่สุด

5. ส่วนจัดแสดงและขยายพันธุ์สมเสร็จ

จัดขึ้นตามนโยบายขององค์การสวนสัตว์ ได้ให้สวนสัตว์สงขลาเป็นสถานที่อนุรักษ์และขยายพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าที่มีถิ่น กำเนิดในภาคใต้ โดยเฉพาะสัตว์ป่าสงวนของไทยมีทั้งหมด 15 ชนิด ขณะนี้ สวนสัตว์สงขลามีสัตว์ป่าสงวนของไทยจำนวน 4 ชนิด ด้วยกัน คือ ละมั่ง (ละอง) เลียงผา เก้งหม้อ และสมเสร็จ

นอกเหนือจากสัตว์ป่าชนิดต่าง ๆ อันควรค่าแก่การศึกษา สวนสัตว์สงขลายังมีสวนน้ำขนาดใหญ่บนเนื้อที่กว่า 10 ไร่ สามารถชมวิวจังหวัดสงขลาได้แบบพานอรามา ภายในสวนน้ำมีสระว่ายน้ำขนาดใหญ่ สไลเดอร์ อ่างน้ำวน บริเวณสวนน้ำยังมีร้านอาหารไว้คอยบริการนักท่องเที่ยว สวนน้ำเปิดทุกวันเวลา 10.30-17.30 น.
