It is the residence of the Thai monarch during the rattanakosin period in the past. Built during the reign of King Rama I in 1882, the Ubosot has a golden buddhist monk above the Chukchi base, enshrining the Buddha maha Maneerattanapamakorn, or Emerald Buddha. It is now used for important ceremonies and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand.
