คือ ความรู้ถึงหลักการหรือแนวคิดหรือแนวทางที่ผู้ปฏิบัติงานศิลปะหรือศิลปินทุกสาขาต้องมาใช้ร่วมกัน นำมาเป็นแนวปฏิบัติใช้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานของตน โดยคำนึงคือ การนำหลักสุนทรียศาสตร์มาช่วยในการศึกษาหรือจะนำมาเป็นบางส่วนมาใช้ในทฤษฏีในการสร้างงาน ซึ่งอาจจะเพิ่มเติมไปจากสุนทรียศาสตร์ที่ว่าด้วยเรื่องสุนทรียภาพที่มีผลเกิดจากงานศิลปะโดยเฉพาะ ทั้งสุนทรียศาสตร์และปรัชญาศิลปะยังเป็นเรื่องที่อยู่ในกรอบของศิลปะอยู่ แต่แตกต่างกันไปบ้างในด้านหน้าที่และจุดมุ่งหมายที่แปลกแยกออกไปเช่น สุนทรียศาสตร์ให้ความสนใจเรื่องของผลทางสุนทรียภาพระดับสูงที่เกิดจากงานศิลปะ ส่วนปรัชญาศิลปะมีภาระในการค้นหาแก่นสารสำคัญของหลักการ แนวทางที่มีจุดมุ่งหมายทั้งในรูปของอุดมการณ์ หรือลัทธิที่นำไปปฏิบัติให้เกิดสุนทรียะในงานศิลปะ หรือที่ศิลปินยึดถือเป็นแนวทางปฏิบัติ
