ประเพณียี่เป็ง ลอยกระทงท้องถิ่น
“ยี่เป็ง” เป็นภาษาคำเมืองในภาคเหนือ คำว่า “ยี่” แปลว่า สอง และคำว่า “เป็ง” ตรงกับคำว่า “เพ็ญ”

ประเพณีลอยกระทง : หรืองานเหลินสิบสอง จัดขึ้นในวันเพ็ญเดือนสิบสอง โดยชาวบ้านจะจัดทำกระทงเล็กๆ ไปลอยตามแม่น้ำ มีการประกวดกระทงใหญ่ที่หนองจองคำ ซึ่งเป็นหนองน้ำสาธารณะกลางเมือง มีการแสดงมหรสพรื่นเริง ตามบ้านเรือนจะมีการจุดประทีปโคมไฟสว่างไสว นอกจากนี้ยังมีการลอยกระทงสวรรค์ โดยนำกระทงที่จุดประทีปโคมไฟแล้วผูกติดกับลูกโป่งลอยขึ้นไปในอากาศ พิธีนี้จัดขึ้นที่วัดพระธาตุดอยกองมู
