เมอร์ริตต์ ได้ศึกษาผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางการเรียน โดยการใช้และไม่ใช้คอมพิวเตอร์ช่วยสอนในโรงเรียนขนาดกลาง โดยให้กลุ่มที่เรียนด้วยคอมพิวเตอร์ช่วยสอนเป็นกลุ่มทดลองและกลุ่มที่เรียนปกติเป็นกลุ่มควบคุม โดยมีตัวแปรคือ ผลลัพท์ทางการวัดความคิดรวบยอด ความวิตกกังวล และเจตคติที่มีต่อครู การศึกษากำหนด ความแตกต่างตามเพศและระดับชั้นโดยกลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนเกรด 6 และเกรด 7 จำนวน 144 คน ปรากฏว่าผลสัมฤทธิ์ของกลุ่มทดลองสูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุม ทั้งในด้สนการอ่านและการคำนวณ นักเรียนเกรด 6 และนักเรียนชาย-หญิง เกรด 7 มีความคิดรวบยอดด้วยตนเอง ความวิตกกังวล และเจตคติที่มีต่อครู ไม่แตกต่างกัน แต่ในตัวแปรนี้มีนักเรียนชายเกรด 6 มีความแตกต่างกันอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ 0.1
