๒. ตทังควิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นจากกิเลสด้วยองค์นั้น ด้วยอำนาจของวิปัสสนาญาณ เพียงได้นามรูปปริจเฉทญาณ ปัญญาที่แยกนามกับรูปว่าเป็นคนละอย่าง ก็สามารถละความเห็นผิดว่านามรูป เป็นตัวตนได้ชั่วคราว

๓. สมุจเฉทวิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นจากกิเลส ด้วยการตัดขาด ด้วยมรรคญาณ กิเลสที่ถูกตัดขาดไปแล้วย่อมไม่กลับมาเกิดได้อีก

๔. ปฏิปัสสัทธิวิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นจากกิเลส เพราะกิเลสทั้งหลายสงบระงับไปในขณะแห่งผลจิต

๕. นิสสรณวิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นจากกิเลสด้วยการสลัดออกจากธรรมอันเป็นข้าศึกคือกิเลส ด้วยนิพพาน




ในวิมุตติ ๕ อย่างนี้ วิมุตติ ๒ อย่างแรกเป็นโลกียะ ส่วนวิมุตติ ๓ อย่างหลังเป็นโลกุตตระ ปัญญาคือความรู้ในวิมุตติ ๕ อย่างนั้น เรียกว่า วิมุตติญาณ



ใน อังคุตตรนิกาย ทุกนิบาต กล่าวถึงวิมุตติ ๒ อย่างคือ เจโตวิมุตติ และปัญญาวิมุตติ ว่า

"ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย จิตที่เศร้าหมองด้วยราคะ ย่อมไม่หลุดพ้น หรือปัญญาที่เศร้าหมองด้วยอวิชชา ย่อมไม่เจริญด้วยประการฉะนี้แล "

"ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เพราะสำรอกราคะได้ จึงชื่อว่าเจโตวิมุติ เพราะสำรอกอวิชชาได้จึงชื่อว่าปัญญาวิมุติฯ "




ขยายความ โดยปริยายหนึ่งๆ ว่า :-

◦เจโตวิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นด้วยใจ ได้แก่ ผลสมาธิ คือสมาธิที่ประกอบกับอรหัตตผลจิต
◦ปัญญาวิมุตติ ความหลุดพ้นด้วยปัญญา ได้แก่ ผลปัญญา คือปัญญาที่ประกอบกับอรหัตตผลจิต

เพราะฉะนั้น เมื่อว่าโดยพระอภิธรรมแล้ว เจโตวิมุตติกับปัญญาวิมุตติ จึงเกิดขึ้นพร้อมกันกับอรหัตตผลจิต ก็เจโตวิมุตตินั้น ได้แก่ เอกัคคตาหรือสัมมาสมาธิ ปัญญาวิมุตติ ได้แก่ ปัญญาหรือสัมมาทิฐิ ที่ประกอบด้วยอรหัตตผลจิต

◦อริยมรรค ชื่อว่า กำลังหลุดพ้นจากกิเลส อริยมรรคนั้นเป็นกุศลจิตมี ๔ คือโสดาปัตติมรรค สกทาคามิมรรค อนาคามิมรรค และอรหัตตมรรค
◦อริยผล ชื่อว่า หลุดพ้นแล้วจากกิเลส อริยผลเป็นผลของมรรคเป็นวิบากจิต ก็มี ๔ เท่ากับอริยมรรค คือโสดาปัตติผล สกทาคามิผล อนาคามิผล และอรหัตตผล

ในขณะที่มรรคจิตอันเป็นกุศลเกิดขึ้น ทำลายกิเลสให้ขาดเป็นสมุจเฉทแล้วดับไป ผลจิตอันเป็นวิบากจะเกิดขึ้นสืบต่อจากมรรคจิตทันที โดยไม่มีจิตอื่นมาเกิดคั่นในระหว่างนั้น นั่นคือเมื่อมรรคอันเป็นเหตุเกิดขึ้นแล้วดับลง ผลของมรรคจะเกิดต่อทันที โดยไม่มีจิตอื่นมาคั่น

การที่มรรคจิตอันเป็นกุศลเกิดขึ้นแล้วดับไปผลจิตอันเป็นวิบากก็เกิดขึ้นทันที โดยไม่ต้องรอเวลา นี้แหละชื่อว่า อกาลิโก เพราะไม่มีกาลเวลาในการให้ผลกุศลอื่นๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นมหากุศลหรือฌานกุศลเมื่อเกิดขึ้นและดับไปแล้วที่จะให้ผลทันทีเหมือนมรรคจิตหามีไม่ ต้องรอเวลาที่จะให้ผลทั้งสิ้น เพราะฉะนั้นมรรคจิตเท่านั้นจึงชื่อว่า อกาลิโก กุศลอื่นๆ ไม่ชื่อว่าอกาลิโก




ในอรรถกถา ขุททกนิกาย อิติวุตตกะ สัททสูตร กล่าวว่า

◦สมาธิชื่อว่า เจโตวิมุตติ เป็นผลของสมถะ และที่สมาธิได้ชื่อว่าเจโตวิมุตติเพราะพ้นจากราคะ
◦ปัญญาชื่อว่า ปัญญาวิมุตติ เป็นผลของวิปัสสนา และที่ปัญญาได้ชื่อว่าปัญญาวิมุตติ เพราะพ้นจากอวิชชา

ใน คัมภีร์บุคคลบัญญัติ แสดงวิมุตติของพระอรหันต์ ๒ อย่าง คือ อุภโตภาควิมุตติ และปัญญาวิมุตติ ไม่มีเจโตวิมุตติ

◦ อุภโตภาควิมุตติ ได้แก่ บุคคลที่ได้สมาบัติ ๘ คือได้ทั้งรูปฌาน ๔ และอรูปฌาน ๔ ออกจากสมาบัติแล้วเจริญวิปัสสนา เห็นความเสื่อมไปสิ้นไปของสังขารทั้งหลายด้วยวิปัสสนาปัญญา เห็นอริยสัจ ๔ ด้วยมรรคปัญญา กล่าวคือบุคคลประเภทอุภโตภาควิมุตตินี้พ้นจากรูปกายคือรูปฌานด้วยอรูปฌานหรืออรูปสมาบัติ
เพราะเจริญฌานที่มีอรูปเป็นอารมณ์ จึงชื่อว่าพ้นจากรูปกายด้วยอรูปสมาบัติก่อนเป็นครั้งแรก จากนั้นจึงพ้นจากนามกาย คือกิเลสด้วยอริยมรรคเป็นครั้งที่สอง เพราะฉะนั้นจึงชื่อว่าอุภโตภาควิมุตตบุคคล เพราะหลุดพ้นจากส่วนสองคือ ๒ ครั้ง ครั้งแรกพ้นจากรูปกายด้วยอรูปสมาบัติ ครั้งที่ ๒ พ้นจากกิเลสด้วยอริยมรรค
ท่านจัดบุคคลที่ชื่อว่าอุภโตภาควิมุตติไว้ ๕ พวกคือบุคคลที่ได้อรูปสมาบัติ ๔ ออกจากอรูปสมาบัติแต่ละสมาบัติแล้ว พิจารณาสังขารทั้งหลายแล้วจึงบรรลุพระอรหัตต์จัดเป็น ๔ พวก กับพระอนาคามีผู้ออกจากนิโรธสมาบัติแล้ว บรรลุพระอรหัตต์อีกพวกหนึ่ง จึงเป็น ๕ พวก

สรุปว่า บุคคลที่ได้ชื่อว่า อุภโตภาควิมุตตินั้น ได้แก่พระอรหันต์ผู้ได้สมาบัติ ๘ เท่านั้น




◦ปัญญาวิมุตติ ได้แก่บุคคลผู้มิได้ถูกต้องสมาบัติ ๘ ด้วยกาย แต่หลุดพ้นจากกิเลสเพราะเห็นด้วยปัญญา ท่านจัดปัญญาวิมุตติบุคคลไว้ ๕ พวก คือพระอรหันต์ผู้สุกขวิปัสสก คือเจริญวิปัสสนาล้วนๆ พวกหนึ่ง และบุคคลผู้ออกจากรูปฌาน ๔ แต่ละฌานแล้วเจริญวิปัสสนา แล้วบรรลุพระอรหันต์อีก ๔ พวกคือ
1.ออกจากปฐมฌานแล้วบรรลุพระอรหัตต์ ๑
2.ออกจากทุติยฌานแล้วบรรลุพระอรหัตต์ ๑
3.ออกจากตติยฌานแล้วบรรลุพระอรหัตต์ ๑
4.ออกจากจตุตถฌานแล้วบรรลุพระอรหัตต์อีก ๑
จึงรวมเป็น ๕ พวก ซึ่งพระอรหันต์ทั้ง ๕ พวกนี้ไม่มีท่านใดเลยที่ได้สมาบัติ ๘ อย่างมากก็ได้เพียงรูปฌาน ๔ เท่านั้น
ถึงกระนั้น บุคคลทั้งสองพวกนี้ คือทั้งอุภโตภาควิมุตติและปัญญาวิมุตติต่างก็ได้ชื่อว่า พระอรหันต์ผู้หลุดพ้นจากกิเลสทั้งปวงเป็นสมุจเฉทวิมุตติด้วยกันทั้งสิ้น
