อุ้ม ณัชฐานันตร์ ได้ก้าวเข้ามาสู้เส้นทางนักกีฬาว่ายน้ำตั้งแต่อายุ 8 ปี จากนั้นพออายุ 9 ปี ก็เดินสายแข่งขันคว้าเหรียญทองมาอย่างมากมาย จนกระทั่งอายุ 17 ปี สาวอุ้มก็ได้ก้าวเข้าสู้รั้วทีมชาติในกีฬาซีเกมส์ ครั้งที่ 22 ที่ประเทศเวียดนาม ถึงแม้ว่าครั้งแรกเธอจะไม่สามารถ คว้าเหรียญชัยใด ๆ มาได้เลย แต่ในการแข่งขันซีเกมส์ครั้งที่ 23 ซึ่งเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ของเธอ เธอก็คว้าเหรียญทองมา 2 เหรียญ จาก ผลัดฟรีสไตล์ 4x100 เมตร และ 4x200 เมตรให้ชาวไทยได้เชยชม สำหรับแรงบันดาลใจในการว่ายน้ำนอกจากความชื่นชอบกีฬานี้เป็นทุนเดิมแล้ว เธอยังมีไอดอลอย่าง ฉลากณุก รัฐพงศ์ ศิริสานนท์ เป็นแรงบันดาลใจในการว่ายน้ำอีกด้วย
