งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่เพื่อผลผลิตของการผลิตข้อต่อเหล็กหล่อในเพิ่มขึ้นร้อยละ 5 จากเดิม เพื่อขยายกำลังการผลิตและรองรับความต้องการของลูกค้าที่เพิ่มขึ้นในอนาคต ในปัจจุบันผลผลิตนี้ไม่สามารถผลิตได้ตรงตามเป้าหมายที่กำหนดไว้ เนื่องจากขั้นตอนการขูดแกนไส้โมลใช้เวลาในการผลิตช้า จึงเกิดปัญหาคอขวด (Bottleneck) ทำให้ขั้นตอนอื่น ๆ ซึ่งทำการผลิตภายหลังขั้นตอนดังกล่าวต้องรอแกนไส้โมล เช่น การประกอบโมล การหล่อผลิตภัณฑ์ และตกแต่งผลิตภัณฑ์ ดังนั้นในการแก้ไขปัญหาดังกล่าว ผู้วิจัยได้ประยุกต์ใช้วิธีการวิเคราะห์กระบวนการผลิตด้วยการศึกษาการทำงาน (Work Study) เพื่อการออกแบบและปรับปรุงกระบวนการทำงานให้ง่ายต่อการปฏิบัติงาน รวมถึงการประยุกต์ใช้เครื่องมือในการทำงาน โดยคาดว่าจะทำให้กระบวนการผลิตข้อต่อเหล็กหล่อมีประสิทธิภาพเพิ่มขึ้น และสามารถเป็นแนวทางการปรับปรุงกระบวนการผลิตของผลิตภัณฑ์อื่น ๆ ที่มีลักษณะใกล้เคียงกันได้
