กาลครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว…ชาวนาคนหนึ่งได้ไปยังรังห่านของเขา แล้วพบไข่ฟองหนึ่งเป็นสีเหลืองส่องแสงแวววาว
เมื่อเขาหยิบมันขึ้นมา… ก็รู้สึกว่ามันหนักพอๆ กับตะกั่ว เขานำมันกลับบ้าน… และทันใดก็พบว่ามันเป็นไข่ทองคำบริสุทธิ์ ทุกเช้าเหตุกาลเดียวกันก็เกิดขึ้น และในไม่ช้าเขาก็กลายเป็นคนมั่งมี…จากการขายไข่ทองคำ เมื่อเขายิ่งร่ำรวยขึ้น…เขาก็ยิ่งโลภมากขึ้น และคิดหาทางที่จะได้ขายไข่ทั้งหมด…
ที่ห่านสามารถให้ได้ในคราวเดียว เขาจึงฆ่ามัน…ผ่าทองมัน แล้วเขาก็พบแต่ความว่างเปล่า…!
