ริษัท สยามกลการ จำกัด ก่อตั้งเมื่อวันที่ 4 กันยายน 2495 โดย ดร.ถาวร พรประภา แต่เดิม ตั้งอยู่ ณ เลขที่ 865 ถ.พระราม1 ปทุมวัน ดำเนินธุรกิจการค้าขาย เครื่องยนต์ทั้งเก่าและใหม่ ต่อมาได้ทำการติดต่อ กับบริษัท นิสสันมอเตอร์ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น และได้รับความไว้วางใจ ให้เป็นตัวจำหน่าย รถยนต์นิสสัน/ดัทสัน ในต่างประเทศ เป็นแห่งแรกของโลก ด้วยนโยบายในการดำเนินธุรกิจ ให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด และเจตนารมณ์ในการพัฒนาประเทศ ให้เจริญควบคู่กันไป จึงได้สร้างโรงงานผลิต และประกอบรถยนต์ เป็นแห่งแรกในประเทศไทย ณ บริเวณ ซอยศรีจันทร์ สุขุมวิท 67 ภายใต้ชื่อ "บริษัท สยามกลการ และนิสสัน จำกัด" มีกำลังการผลิตวันละ 4 คัน

ต่อมาได้ขยายกิจการไปอยู่ที่ ศูนย์อุตสาหกรรม สยามกลการ บริเวณกิโลเมตรที่ 21 บนถนน บางนา-ตราด บนพื้นที่กว่า 800 ไร่ เป็นโรงงานขนาดใหญ่ ที่ทันสมัยสูงด้วยเทคโนโลยี และคุณภาพ โดยได้เปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น "บริษัท สยามนิสสัน ออโตโมบิล จำกัด" สามารถมีกำลังผลิต 100,000 คันต่อปี
