1. ได้มีการประชุมระดับรัฐมนตรีและเจ้าหน้าที่อาวุโส และระดับสภาธุรกิจร่วมสามฝ่ายไปแล้วรวม 7 ครั้ง
2. ความก้าวหน้าโครงการที่เกี่ยวข้องทางการค้าได้แก่
- การขยายเวลาเปิดด่านออกไปอีก 3 ชั่วโมง จำนวน 3 ด่าน คือ ด่านสะเดา ปาดังเบซาร์ และสุไหงโกลก
- การขนส่งสินค้าเน่าเสียง่ายประทับตราปิดผนึกผ่านด่านสะเดาโดยไม่เปิดตรวจ
- จากการประชุมเจ้าหน้าที่อาวุโส เมื่อต้นเดือนพฤศจิกายน 2540 ณ ประเทศมาเลเซีย ที่ประชุมเห็นชอบตามข้อเสนอของไทยให้มีการพิจารณาเกี่ยวกับการลดมาตรการกีดกันทางการค้าที่มิใช่ภาษีในระหว่างประเทศสมาชิกในกรอบ IMT-GT ต่อไปและที่ประชุมระดับรัฐมนตรี ครั้งที่ 7 ให้ความเห็นชอบ
