จากปฏิธานของท่านในวันนั้น ด้วยท่านมีภาระหน้าที่ความรับผิดชอบ และเป็นห่วงมารดา จึงขมักเขม้นทำงานเก็บสะสมทรัพย์ เพื่อให้มารดาสามารถเลี้ยงชีพได้ตลอดชีวิต เมื่อบรรบุความตั้งใจในส่วนนี้แล้ว ท่านจึงได้อุปสมบท ณ วัดสองพี่น้อง อำเภอสองพี่น้อง จังหวัดสุพรรณบุรี ในปี พ.ศ.2449 ขณะอายุได้ 22 ปี โดยมี พระอาจารย์ดี วัดประตูศาล อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดสุพรรณบุรี เป็นพระอุปัชฌาย์ พระครูวินยานุโยค (เหนี่ยง อินทโชโต) เป็นพระกรรมวาจาจารย์ พระอาจารย์โหน่ง อินทสุวรรณโณ เป็นพระอนุสาวนาจารย์ โดยได้รับฉายาว่า จนฺทสโร

หลวงพ่อสด จนฺทสโร ได้จำพรรษาที่วัดสองพี่น้องเป็นระยะเวลา 1 พรรษา จึงได้เดินทางมาจำพรรษา ณ วัดเชตุพน หรือ วัดโพธิ์ท่าเตียน ในขณะที่จำพรรษาที่วัดเชตุพนนั้น ท่านยังได้เดินทางไปยังสถานที่ต่าง ๆ ทั้งใกล้และไกล เพื่อศึกษาหาความรู้ด้านคันถธุระ และ วิปัสสนาธุระ ณ สถานที่ต่าง ๆ อีกหลายที่หลายสำนักด้วยกัน จนกระทั่ง

พ.ศ.2492 เป็นพระราชาคณะสามัญที่ พระภาวนาโกศลเถระ ถือพัดยศพื้นสีขาว อันเป็นตำแหน่งเกี่ยวกับทางด้านวิปัสสนาธุระโดยตรง

พ.ศ.2498 ได้รับพระราชทานสมณศักดิ์เป็นพระราชาคณะชั้นราช มีพระราชทินนามว่า พระมงคลราชมุนี
