คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย

คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เป็นส่วนงานประเภทคณะของจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย จัดตั้งขึ้นตามประกาศของคณะปฏิวัติ ฉบับที่ 164 ลงวันที่ 15 มิถุนายน 2515[2] มีรากฐานมาจากโรงเรียนกฎหมาย กระทรวงยุติธรรม ที่โอนมาเป็นคณะนีติศาสตร์และรัฐศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2476 แล้วแยกไปเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมืองเมื่อปีเดียวกัน ก่อนจะเริ่มสอนนิติศาสตร์ในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยอีกครั้งตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2494 ในฐานะแผนกหนึ่งของคณะรัฐศาสตร์ ปัจจุบัน เปิดสอนระดับปริญญาตรี โท และเอก
คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ได้รับชื่ออย่างไม่เป็นทางการว่า Law Chula เพื่อให้พ้องกับ ฬ จุฬา และได้มีการใช้คติพจน์อย่างไม่เป็นทางการว่า

นอกจากนี้คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยยังเป็นคณะนิติศาสตร์ที่ได้รับการเลือกเข้าศึกษาจากผู้ที่ได้คะแนนสูงสุดของประเทศจากการคัดเลือกบุคคลเข้าศึกษาต่อในระดับปริญญาตรีด้วยระบบ Admission และยังได้รับการจัดอันดับจาก QS world rankingให้เป็นคณะนิติศาสตร์ที่ดีที่สุดในประเทศไทยอีกด้วย
คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย มีวิวัฒนาการสืบเนื่องมานับตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2476 กล่าวคือ ก่อนหน้านั้นพระบาทสมเด็จพระปกเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวมีพระราชดำริว่า นิติศึกษา ณ โรงเรียนกฎหมาย กระทรวงยุติธรรมได้เจริญยิ่งขึ้นเป็นลำดับมา และมีผลประจักษ์ว่าได้บรรลุถึงขีดวิชาขั้นมหาวิทยาลัยในอารยประเทศแล้ว เป็นการสมควรที่จะบำรุงต่อไปในทำนองมหาวิทยาลัย จึงทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ประสานระเบียบการศึกษานิติศาสตร์เข้ากับมหาวิทยาลัยเป็นคณะวิชาคณะหนึ่ง และได้มีประกาศพระบรมราชโองการ ลงวันที่ 25 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2476[3] จัดตั้งคณะขึ้นมีชื่อเรียกว่า คณะนิติศาสตร์และรัฐศาสตร์
ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ 8 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2476 หลังจากได้จัดให้มีการเรียนการสอนเพียง 8 เดือน ได้มีประกาศใช้ "พระราชบัญญัติมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมือง พ.ศ. 2476" ซึ่งมาตรา 5 แห่งพระราชบัญญัติดังกล่าว กำหนดให้โอนคณะนิติศาสตร์และรัฐศาสตร์ ในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ไปไปสังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยวิชาธรรมศาสตร์และการเมือง ด้วยเหตุนี้คณะนิติศาสตร์และรัฐศาสตร์ของจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยจึงเป็นอันสิ้นสภาพลงไปชั่วระยะเวลาหนึ่ง
ในเวลาต่อมา ได้มีการจัดตั้งแผนกวิชานิติศาสตร์ขึ้นใหม่ในคณะรัฐศาสตร์โดยพระราชกฤษฎีกา จัดแบ่งแผนกวิชาในคณะต่าง ๆ แห่งจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พ.ศ. 2494 ซึ่งมีผลใช้บังคับตั้งแต่วันที่ 11 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2494 จึงเป็นอันว่าวิชากฎหมายได้มีขึ้นอีกครั้งหนึ่งในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ต่อมาเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2501 แผนกวิชานิติศาสตร์ได้ปรับปรุงหลักสูตร และเปิดรับนิสิตเข้าเรียนในแผนกวิชานิติศาสตร์โดยตรง การเรียนการสอนในขณะนั้นก็แยกออกจากแผนกวิชารัฐศาสตร์ทั้งหมดโดยสิ้นเชิง จึงเป็นอันว่าการเรียนการสอนในแผนกวิชานิติศาสตร์ในยุคหลังได้เกิดขึ้นโดยสมบูรณ์ตั้งแต่นั้นมา การศึกษาวิชากฎหมายในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัยได้เจริญรุ่งเรืองขึ้นเป็นลำดับ จนกระทั่งมหาวิทยาลัยในขณะนั้นได้เล็งเห็นความสำคัญที่จะต้องเปิดภาคสมทบขึ้น เพื่อสนองความต้องการของผู้ที่จะเข้าศึกษาวิชานิติศาสตร์ จึงได้เปิดการสอนภาคสมทบขึ้นในปีการศึกษา 2508
ต่อมาทางมหาวิทยาลัย ได้พิจารณาเห็นว่า การศึกษาวิชานิติศาสตร์ได้เจริญก้าวหน้าขึ้นเป็นลำดับ และได้เริ่มทำการสอนจนถึงขั้นปริญญาโท ตั้งแต่ปีการศึกษา 2512 เป็นต้นมา สมควรที่จะยกฐานะแผนกวิชานิติศาสตร์ขึ้นเป็นคณะนิติศาสตร์ เพื่อให้การบริหารดำเนินไปได้มีประสิทธิภาพยิ่งขึ้น ประกอบกับเหตุผลสำคัญ คือ ในต่างประเทศถือว่าการศึกษาวิชานิติศาสตร์เป็นวิชาสำคัญ ในมหาวิทยาลัยที่มีชื่อเสียงจะต้องมีคณะนิติศาสตร์ขึ้นเป็นคณะสำคัญของมหาวิทยาลัย ในที่สุด ได้มีการดำเนินการจัดตั้งคณะนิติศาสตร์ ขึ้นอีกครั้งหนึ่งในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เมื่อวันที่ 15 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2515 โดยประกาศของคณะปฏิวัติ ฉบับที่ 164 เป็นอันว่าคณะนิติศาสตร์ได้รับการจัดตั้งเป็นคณะที่สมบูรณ์ เริ่มตั้งแต่วันที่ 18 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2515 ซึ่งเป็นวันถัดจากวันลงประกาศดังกล่าวในราชกิจจานุเบกษาเป็นต้นไป และเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2538 นี้ ได้มีการตราพระราชกฤษฎีกาจัดตั้งคณะแพทยศาสตร์ คณะนิติศาสตร์ และคณะเภสัชศาสตร์ ในจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พ.ศ. 2538 เพื่อใช้แทนประกาศของคณะปฏิวัติที่มีมาแต่เดิม ทั้งนี้ ก็เพื่อให้เป็นไปตามวิธีการตรากฎหมายในระบบปกติของรัฐธรรมนูญแห่งราชอาณาจักรไทย โดยนัยนี้ คณะนิติศาสตร์ จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ในปัจจุบันจึงจัดตั้งขึ้นตามความในมาตรา 4 แห่งพระราชกฤษฎีกาซึ่งออกตามความในพระราชบัญญัติจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย พ.ศ. 2522 และถือเอาวันที่ 18 มิถุนายนของทุกปี เป็นวันที่ระลึกสถาปนาคณะนับถึงปัจจุบันนี้
ปัจจุบัน คณะนิติศาสตร์ ตั้งอยู่ทางฝั่งตะวันตกของถนนพญาไท (เยื้องกับคณะพาณิชยศาสตร์และการบัญชี) ในพื้นที่บริเวณเดียวกับคณะนิเทศศาสตร์ โดยมีอาคารทำการของคณะสองอาคาร คือ อาคารเทพทวาราวดี เป็นอาคารที่ทำการ นอกจากนี้ยังมี อาคารพินิตประชานาถ ซึ่งเป็นอาคารเรียนส่วนกลาง ใช้ร่วมกับคณะนิเทศศาสตร์
อนึ่ง นามอาคารพินิตประชานาถ และอาคารเทพทวาราวดี ได้รับพระราชทานพระบรมราชานุญาตจากพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวให้ใช้เป็นนามอาคาร ด้วย "พินิตประชานาถ" เป็นพระนามกรมของพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (พระผู้พระราชทานกำเนิดจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย) เมื่อครั้งทรงดำรงพระราชอิสริยยศที่ สมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกยาเธอ เจ้าฟ้าจุฬาลงกรณ์ กรมขุนพินิตประชานาถ ส่วน "เทพทวาราวดี" เป็นพระนามกรมของ พระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (พระผู้ทรงสถาปนาจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย) เมื่อครั้งทรงดำรงพระราชอิสริยยศที่ สมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกยาเธอ เจ้าฟ้ามหาวชิราวุธ กรมขุนเทพทวาราวดี
