สถานที่อันเป็นธรรมภูมิที่งดงาม ซึ่งเรียกว่าผาซ่อนแก้วนี้ มีธรรมชาติเป็นภูเขาที่สูงใหญ่ ซ้อนกันเป็นทิวเขาเรียงรายโอบรอบบริเวณศาลาปฏิบัติธรรม และบนยอดเขาสูงตระหง่านนั้น มีถ้ำอยู่บนปลายยอดเขา ซึ่งมีชาวบ้านทางแดงหลายคน ได้เห็นลูกแก้วลอยเหนือฟากฟ้า และลับหายเข้าไปในถ้ำบนยอดผา ชาวบ้านเชื่อว่าเป็นพระบรมสารีริกธาตุเสด็จมา และต่างถือว่าเป็นสถานที่มงคล มีความศักดิ์สิทธิ์และเรียกตาม ๆ กันว่า “ผาซ่อนแก้ว” และพุทธสถานที่มาตั้งในจุดที่โอบล้อมด้วยทิวเขาดังกล่าว จึงเรียกว่า “พุทธธรรมสถานผาซ่อนแก้ว” เพื่อเป็นนิมิตมงคลแก่ชาวบ้านทางแดง และผู้มาปฏิบัติธรรมสืบไป

วัดพระธาตุผาซ่อนแก้วก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๗ ในนาม “พุทธธรรมสถานผาซ่อนแก้ว” ได้รับการอนุมัติจัดตั้งเป็นวัด ในมงคลนามว่า “วัดพระธาตุผาแก้ว” เมื่อวันที่ ๑ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๕๓ จากคณะกรรมการมหาเถรสมาคม โดยมีพระครูปลัด ปารมี สุรยุทโธ เป็นเจ้าอาวาส ซึ่งปัจจุบันได้เปลี่ยนชื่อวัดเป็น “วัดพระธาตุผาซ่อนแก้ว” เมื่อ ๓๐ พฤษภาคม ๒๕๕๖ เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับบริเวณที่ตั้ง ซึ่งแต่เดิมชาวบ้านเรียกกันว่า “ผาซ่อนแก้ว”

วัดพระธาตุผาซ่อนแก้วตั้งอยู่ในชัยภูมิธรรม ณ บริเวณเนินเขาในหมู่บ้านทางแดง ต.แคมป์สน อ.เขาค้อ จ.เพชรบูรณ์ โดย คุณภาวิณี และ คุณอุไร โชติกูล ได้มีจิตศรัทธาซื้อที่ดินถวายเริ่มแรกจำนวน ๒๕ ไร่ เพื่อก่อสร้างเป็นสถานที่ปฏิบัติธรรมแก่พระสงฆ์ และพุทธศาสนิกชนทั่วไป ปัจจุบันมีผู้ร่วมถวายปัจจัยซื้อที่ดินเพิ่มรวมทั้งสิ้นมีที่ดินรวม ๙๑ ไร่
