กุ้งเครฟิช หมายถึงกุ้งมังกรหรือล็อบ

กุ้งเครฟิช หมายถึงกุ้งมังกรหรือล็อบเตอร์น้ำจืด ( Fresh–water lobster ) เป็นคนละชนิดกับกุ้งมังกรหรือ ล็อบเตอร์น้ำเค็ม
เครฟิช จะมีเปลือกหนาเป็นชุดเกราะคลุมส่วนหัว-อกและลำตัว ส่วนขา มี 2 ประเภทคือขาเดินและขาว่ายน้ำ สำหรับขาเดินจะมี 5 คู่ด้วยกัน ขาเดินคู่แรกสุดเป็นก้ามที่แข็งแรงใหญ่ไว้ป้องกันตัวและต่อสู้ ส่วนขาว่ายน้ำนั้นจะเป็นแผ่นแบนๆ

ถิ่นที่อยู่ในธรรมชาติ
กุ้งเครฟิช มีถิ่นกำเนิดในทวีปอเมริกาเหนือ ยุโรป เอเซียตะวันออก และออสเตรเลีย ปัจจุบันมีการค้นพบมากกว่า500 ชนิดแล้ว โดยมากกว่าครึ่งมีถิ่นกำเนิดในทวีปอเมริกาเหนือ ในธรรมชาติกุ้งเครฟิชจะอาศัยอยู่ตามโขดหินหรือใต้ขอนไม้อยู่ในทั้งลำธาร หนองน้ำ และทะเลสาป
กุ้งเครฟิชในโลก แบ่งออกเป็นหลายตระกูล ( Genus) แต่ในที่นี้เราจะขอจำแนกกลุ่มของเครฟิชที่มีในบ้านเราออกเป็น 3 สาย เพื่อจะได้เข้าใจง่าย ดังนี้
สายที่ 1 คือ Procambarus. บ้านเรานิยมเรียกกุ้งสาย พี. ที่ฟาร์มเรียก กุ้งก้ามหนาม แม่ค้าเรียกกุ้งสี ที่มีถิ่นกำเนิดในทวีปอเมริกาและยุโรป
สายที่ 2 คือ Cherax. บ้านเรานิยมเรียกกุ้งสาย ซี. หรือกุ้งก้ามเรียบ ที่ฟาร์มเรียก กุ้งป่า เพราะส่วนมากจับมาและมีถิ่นกำเนิดในโซน ออสเตรเลีย ปาปัวนิวกินี และอินโดนีเซีย
สายที่ 3 คือ Cambarellus. บ้านเราเรียกกุ้งเครแคระ เพราะมีขนาดเล็ก 3-4 ซม.

หลักการเลี้ยงกุ้งเครฟิช
กุ้งเครฟิชมีหลักการเลี้ยงที่คล้ายคลึงกัน ซึ่งก็คือดัดแปลงมาจากอุปนิสัยและการอยู่อาศัยของมันเองคือ
