การวิจัย เรื่อง การผสมผสานทางวัฒนธรรมระหว่างไทยพุทธกับไทยมุสลิมในเขตจังหวัดภาคใต้ตอนล่าง เป็นการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ (Quantitative Research)โดยการใช้แบบสอบถาม (Questionnaires) ที่มีโครงสร้างแน่นอน นอกจากนี้เพื่อให้ได้รายละเอียดเพิ่มเติม และสมบูรณ์มากยิ่งขึ้น ผู้วิจัยได้นาการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ (Qualitative Research) มาปรับใช้ในการศึกษาวิจัยโดยวิธีการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึก (In-Depth Interview) กรณีศึกษา โดยวิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเจาะจง จังหวัดภาคใต้ตอนล่าง ได้แก่ ตำบลทรายขาว อำเภอโคกโพธิ์ จังหวัดปัตตานี, ตำบลลำพะยา อำเภอเมืองยะลา จังหวัดยะลาและตำบลปะลุกาสาเมาะ อำเภอบาเจาะ จังหวัดนราธิวาส กำหนดกลุ่มตัวอย่าง (Sample Size) โดยใช้สูตรของ Yamane (1970; อ้างถึงใน ประคอง กรรณสูต, 2538) จากประชากรทั้งหมด 26,790 คน ได้จานวน 394 คน เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามกับกลุ่มตัวอย่าง ทั้งที่เป็นประชาชนที่นับถือศาสนาพุทธ และประชาชนที่นับถือศาสนาอิสลาม ซึ่งมีภูมิลำเนาในพื้นที่ 7 ตำบลในเขตจังหวัดภาคใต้ตอนล่าง โดยเปิดโอกาสให้ทุกหน่วยกลุ่มตัวอย่างมีโอกาสถูกรับเลือกอย่างเท่าเทียมกัน โดยวิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบบังเอิญ (Accidental Sampling) ส่วนเชิงคุณภาพใช้สัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึก (In-Depth Interview) กับกลุ่มเป้าหมายโดยการสุ่มตัวอย่างอย่างง่าย (Simple RandomSampling)โดยวิธีจับฉลากโดยหยิบแล้วไม่ใส่กลับ (Sampling Without Replacement) และสุ่มเลือกแบบอ้างอิง (Snowball Sampling)
