ประวัติความเป็นมาของอำเภออ่าวลึก :
อำเภออ่าวลึกเดิมได้รับการจัดตั้งเป็นแขวงเมือง เรียกว่า "แขวงปากลาว" ที่ตั้งอยู่บริเวณตำบลนาเหนือในปัจจุบัน เป็นที่ตั้งชุมชนเดิมตั้งแต่สมัยพระปลัดเมืองนครศรีธรรมราช ได้มาตั้งเพนียดจับช้างป่าที่แขวงปกาไส ต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนจากแขวงปากลาวตั้งเป็นอำเภอ ชื่อว่า "อำเภอปากลาว" ตั้งอยู่บริเวณตำบลนาเหนือ โดยมีขุนมโนทิพย์ ดำรงตำแหน่งนายอำเภอคนแรก ต่อมาพระยารัษฏานุประดิษฐ์ (คอซิมบี้ ณ ระนอง) สภาเทศาภิบาลมณฑลภูเก็ต ซึ่งปกครองเขตอำเภอปากลาวด้วย เห็นว่าสถานที่ตั้งอำเภอปากลาวขณะนั้นสถานที่ตั้งไม่อยู่ศูนย์กลางของชุมชน ตลอดจนการคมนาคมไม่สะดวก จึงให้ย้ายที่ทำการอำเภอปากลาวไปอยู่ที่ในท้องที่ตำบลอ่าวลึกใต้ ซึ่งเป็นชุมชนหนาแน่น และให้เปลี่ยนชื่ออำเภอใหม่เป็น "อำเภออ่าวลึก" เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2460 ได้ก่อสร้างอาคารที่ว่าการอำเภอเป็นอาคารไม้ 2 ชั้น เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2543 ได้รับจัดสรรงบประมาณให้ก่อสร้างอาคารที่ว่าการอำเภอใหม่ แทนอาคารหลังเก่าที่ชำรุดและคับแคบเป็นอาคาร คสล. 2 ชั้น ก่อสร้างแล้วเสร็จเมื่อ พ.ศ.2544 ใช้เป็นที่ว่าการอำเภออ่าวลึกในปัจจุบัน
