ร้อยละ 15.5 ของพื้นที่ในภาคกลางตอนบน มีจำนวนประชากร 333,473 คน ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ โดยทั่วไปเป็นพื้นที่ราบลุ่ม มีพื้นที่ประมาณ ร้อยละ 99.06 ของพื้นที่ทั้งหมด และมีแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา แม่น้ำท่าจีน แม่น้ำน้อย ไหลผ่านพื้นที่ต่างๆ ทั่วทุกอำเภอ จึงเหมาะสมสำหรับการประกอบอาชีพทางด้านการเกษตร ดังนั้น ประชากรส่วนใหญ่ประมาณร้อยละ 80 จึงประกอบอาชีพทางด้านการเกษตรกรรม ในด้านวัฒนธรรมวิถีชีวิตข้าวพื้นเมือง ประเพณีข้าว ได้แก่ ประเพณีกวนข้าวทิพย์ ประเพณีการทำขวัญข้าว ประเพณีการลงแขกเกี่ยวข้าว และประเพณีเรียกขวัญข้าวเข้ายุ้ง การตลาดข้าวพื้นเมืองมี 2 ลักษณะคือ ตลาดข้าวเปลือก และตลาดข้าวสาร โดยตลาดข้าวเปลือกมีการจำหน่ายให้แก่เกษตรกรในชุมชน เพื่อขยายพันธุ์ และจำหน่วยให้แก่ผู้บริโภคในชุมชน และตลาดข้าวสาร มีการทำการตลาดโดยกลุ่มเกษตรกร ได้มีการจำหน่ายในระดับชุมชน จังหวัด และระดับประเทศ ในลักษณะสินค้าผลิตภัณฑ์ชุมชน (OTOP) โดยมีหน่วยงานของรัฐบาลให้การสนับสนุน ด้านกลุ่มปลูกข้าวพื้นเมืองจังหวัดชัยนาท พบว่า มี 4 กลุ่ม ดังนี้ 1) กลุ่มตำบลตำบลกะบกเตี้ย อำเภอเนินขาม จังหวัดชัยนาท ข้าวพื้นเมืองที่ปลูก คือ ข้าวเจ๊กกระโดด 2) กลุ่มตำบลตำบลเนินขาม อำเภอเนินขาม จังหวัดชัยนาท ข้าวพื้นเมืองที่ปลูก คือ ข้าวเหลือดง 3) กลุ่มตำบลหนองมะโมง อำเภอหนองมะโมง จังหวัดชัยนาท ข้าวพื้นเมืองที่ปลูก คือ ข้าวก่ำ 4) กลุ่มตำบลบ้านเชี่ยน อำเภอหันคา จังหวัดชัยนาท ข้าวพื้นเมืองที่ปลูก คือ ข้าวขาวตาแห้ง
